WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

The Lead Mechanical Engineer Is responsible for managing operationally a team of mechanical engineers for a given project (water / wastewater treatment plant). He is responsible for the technical definition of the various required equipment, for the technical evaluation of the suppliers and for the interfaces with the other engineering disciplines. He manages the production of the mechanical team (and/or produces directly), is responsible for the work distribution for the mechanical discipline, for the checking of the design deliverables (technical specifications, equipment calculation notes, vendors technical comparison tables), and ensures that the deliverables related to the mechanical discipline are produced within time, quality and budget. He is part of the project engineering team, which is led by one Engineering Manager / Technical Coordinator. 

For project execution:

  • The Lead Mechanical Engineer leads the team of mechanical engineers who have the following tasks
  • Production of calculation notes for sizing of equipment (such as TMH for pumps, discharge pressure for blowers, service air consumption, room ventilation flow rate, etc.)
  • Preparation of equipment specification for inquiry, based on client specification, process requirements, equipment environmental information, calculation notes and installation conditions. Definition of performance guarantees for the equipment.
  • Checking suppliers’ offers (compliance with the inquiry), seeking for technical optimization of the offers
  • Preparation of the technical comparison table with the suppliers’ offers, technical ranking of the offers, and participation to the selection of the supplier together with the engineering manager, project buyer and project manager
  • Preparation of the technical specification to be included to the purchase order
  • Follow up and review of the engineering documentation provided by the supplier once purchase order has been placed.
  • Preparation and regular updates of the equipment list
  • Management of the interfaces with the other disciplines (design office, electricity, process, hydraulics…) for all matters related to the equipment under his/her responsibility.
  • Depending on the project and the progress, the Lead Mechanical Engineer can be directly in charge of the tasks above.

In addition, the Lead Mechanical Engineer is directly responsible for the following, on the project assigned to him/her:

  • Distributing the work between the mechanical engineers
  • Ensuring their production is made according to project schedule
  • Checking all deliverables produced by the mechanical team (technical review of the documents)
  • Following the productivity of the mechanical team of the project
  • Working closely with the Project Buyer and Expediter
  • Identifying technical risks / opportunities linked to the mechanical discipline and working closely with the Engineering Manager / Project Manager to secure them.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience..
  • With at least 5 years' experience as Mechanical Engineer for water / wastewater treatment plant projects, or petro chemical projects, during engineering phase (basic / detailed design).
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered Mechanical Engineer is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of equipment commonly used in the industry (preferably for water / wastewater treatment plants).
  • Knowledge of water treatment process and their standard technologies, material of construction, corrosion.
  • Competences in hydraulic / aeraulic calculations (piping head losses, TMH calculation).
  • Leadership, capacity to manage operationally a small team. Meticulous, committed, structured.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Communication skills as a team member.
