Like shopping at Trader Joe's? Then, maybe you'll love working with us. We are looking for an experienced Cash Accountant who is searching to do what they'll love - processing refunds, charges, deposits, and reconciliations! Do you have experience in cash accounting? Do you love food? If so, read on! We may have the role of a lifetime for you!

Trader Joe's is unlike any place you've ever worked. Trust us on that. The qualified candidate has at least 2 years of accounting experience and is a raving fan of the Trader Joe's concept. A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related degree is strongly preferred. This role is based in our office in Monrovia, California.

The Cash Accountant is responsible for:

  • All cash handling activities for East Coast Stores including deposit, coin order and ending safe balance reconciliations. This role will interface with stores, armored carriers and the bank on cash discrepancies in order to reconcile the depository and coin order bank accounts on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. This includes continuous follow-up with the armored carriers and the bank on missing deposits and filing claims within the 90 day time frame to ensure that the money gets deposited in our depository account. Email stores any deposit discrepancies on a daily basis as received from the bank. Prepare a weekly discrepancy recap that includes all stores chain-wide for the regionals or items greater than$200 on a weekly basis.
  • The main point of contact for the stores on any cash handling related questions or items including counterfeit bills, standing coin orders, ordering deposit supplies, safe key drop off, armored carrier or banking questions for the East Coast Stores.
  • For new store-opening tasks around cash handling including setting up bank sub-account and communicating this with IT, working with the store Captain and Regional to determine the initial coin order for the store openings, setting up armored carrier service, confirming with stores prior to opening that they receive their cash, have banking supplies and that their safe is in working order.
  • Handle customer phone calls about duplicate charges, overcharges, no charges, refunds, and fraud concerns.
  • Working collaboratively with other departments.

The qualified candidate has:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or similar field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant work related experience.
  • Retail or banking customer service experience.
  • Advanced MicroSoft Excel and intermediate Word and MS Office skills & strong analytical skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
