The role of the Sr. Controls Engineer is to advantage Amazon’s packaging platforms to surprise and delight Amazon’s external customers and internal fulfillment network through the creation, development and execution of highly flexible and efficient packaging machinery and automation platforms.
The primary role of the Sr. Controls Engineer is to execute advanced motion control systems design and programing that enable Amazon’s scaled packaging platforms (designs) to meet or exceed our external customers’ expectations for the products that they buy yet works flawlessly through the internal supply chain delivering the lowest total cost and highest level of sustainability. To achieve this goal, the Controls Engineer will have deep knowledge of advanced motion control systems, system architecture integration across HMI, PLC, Motion Control and the incorporation subsystems critical to the design requirements including but not limited to safety systems, adhesive application, labeling, date coding and vision systems. Also core to the role is the programing of these subsystems (HMI, PLC, Motion, Safety, ancillary systems) required for the machinery and automation to deliver against the design requirements. At the core, the controls engineer will execute platform specific control systems design, integration and programing at the project / platform level of Amazon’s packaging machinery and automation resulting in the improvement of the sustainability and total cost position of our packaging.
Key job responsibilities
The Sr. Controls Engineer will work in close coordination with the Electrical and Mechanical engineering resources on the project team, our prototyping and internal manufacturing as well as MSP functions of scaled manufacturing, RME and other technical support teams to ensure the machinery and automation platforms deliver against the project objectives (rate, availability, quality, cost, functionality) at validation, commissioning and the ongoing life of the assets.

About the team
Aligning mechatronics and packaging into one organization, (Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging, MSP) enables Amazon to develop, deploy and scale automated solutions across the Amazon Fulfillment Network, especially from Pick to SLAM for the Automated Robotics Sortable (ARS) network. This group works backwards from deep customer insights to deliver solutions that seamlessly integrate into brownfield and greenfield deployments with safety as a top priority. In addition, Sustainable Packaging solutions are a thread that impacts and connects all parts of the Amazon Stores supply chain and customer experience. They take ownership for the entire packaging experience including selling partner design, first/middle/last mile and total customer experience. They eliminate waste and packaging wherever possible. Where Amazon added packaging is required, they are transitioning from single-use plastics to curbside recyclable paper-based materials.
