Hatch is looking for a Principal Power Systems Engineer to join its team of highly capable and strategic thinking individuals, who are all committed to fostering a deeply supportive and collaborative culture. (The team is genuinely delightful!).

Whilst we would prefer you to be based in Sydney, we are open to considering other Hatch office locations (e.g. Brisbane or Adelaide) for the right person.

This is the perfect opportunity to take the lead, mentor and grow bright junior engineers. You will be able to contribute to the renewable energy transition in real time with local connection projects, while pushing the industry forward by getting involved in large, complex, first-of-a-kind projects.

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Perform and coordinate power systems analysis and studies
  • Perform generator planning/feasibility assessments and connections
  • Prepare briefing notes, discussion papers, and presentations
  • Manage projects, create business relationships, prepare proposals and support business development
  • Innovate and, show initiative in learning and sharing knowledge with colleagues
  • Participate in and lead young engineers’ forums through engagement in professional activities in the region. 
  • Be required to occasionally travel to site locations or for customer meetings in Australia as well as internationally.

You will bring to the role:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering (preference will be given to candidates with post-graduate degrees in Power Systems),
  • A good understanding of electrical engineering principles and demonstrated experience in power system analysis
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and client engagement skills.
  • Ability to work within focused and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Familiarity with policies, guidelines, rules and regulations as applicable to Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) as well as other jurisdictions will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in programming and use of commonly used engineering and power system analysis applications / tools
  • Current living and working rights in Australia (i.e. permanent residency or citizenship).
