Tax Manager is responsible for managing and directing all activities regarding tax research, planning and compliance required of the organization. Develops and implements systems to support data collection, data analysis, preparation and submission for various tax filings. Works to optimize the tax obligation of the organization.

Principal Responsibilities: 

  • General responsibilities:
  • Maintaining the US tax filing calendar.
  • Coordinating US tax payments with our treasury team.
  • Reconciling US tax accounts.
  • Managing relationships with external tax advisors to ensure that they are providing high-quality, cost-effective services while developing and implementing strategic tax planning for all necessary federal, state, and local taxes.
  • US income taxes:
  • Ensuring accurate, timely filing of US federal, state, and local corporate tax returns, including preparation of extensions and estimated tax payments. This function is currently outsourced, so you will be responsible for managing our external advisors.
  • Assisting in the preparation and review of the annual corporate tax provision (ASC 740) and all related assumptions, analyses, journal entries, calculations and footnote disclosures.
  • Identifying and evaluating uncertain tax reporting positions in the US in order to properly reflect the tax treatment of such items in our financial statements.
  • Supporting transfer pricing calculations and documentation
  • US indirect taxes:
  • Managing US indirect tax processes (sales and use taxes, property taxes, unclaimed property reporting, etc.).
  • Coordinating with external advisors to file monthly sales/use tax returns.
  • Managing product taxability matrix for US sales tax
  • Managing collection of resale/exemption certificates
  • Maintaining our tax determination software (Thompson Reuters OneSource)
  • Other US tax reporting:
  • Coordinating filing of forms 1099
  • Preparing tax residency certificates, Forms W-9, W-8, Form 1042, etc. 
  • Audits:
  • Supporting US income tax and sales and use tax audits and developing strategies to successfully defend tax filing positions.
  • Tax planning:
  • Identifying tax planning opportunities as well as tax risks arising from changes in the company’s operating model, business structure, and tax law changes.
  • Reviewing proposed transactions to properly advise management of tax consequences.
  • Monitoring legislative/regulatory tax law developments, communicating the related tax compliance impacts, and proposing solutions/planning ideas.

Essential Requirements: 

  • Excellent analytical, technical, research and tax accounting/technology skills with proficiency in US GAAP and US tax compliance.
  • Self-starter with the ability and willingness to exercise independent judgment and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to make sense of complex, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
  • Very well structured, analytical thinking.
  • Strong communication skills.

Education & Experience: 

  • A successfully completed university degree in Accounting, Tax economics, business administration or comparable.
  • 5-7 years of US corporate tax experience in public accounting and/or a corporate environment.
  • Solid expertise in the areas of US income and indirect taxes and US withholding taxes.
  • Strong ASC 740 Accounting for Income Taxes skills.
