The Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will provide expert counsel and direct the fiscal operations of the health care system. This includes providing clear, concise financial information, and make sound, educated, economic decisions for the health system. The CFO is responsible for overall executive oversight the general accounting, patient business services, including third-party reimbursement, financial and statistical reporting functions of the hospital in accordance with established policies and accounting procedures. The CFO assists the hospital's governing board and CEO in the development of long and short-range health system operational and fiscal plans, which may include service demand analyses, resources availability analyses, and cost benefit analyses of proposed capital and staff expansions. With governing board oversight and participation, the CFO develops long and short-range operational and capital budgets, which are supported by the hospital's long and short-range plans and objectives. This position prepares presentations for the bond market and ensures solid financial standing for the health system. The CFO administers, coordinates, and controls corporate fiscal services. This role directs and has managerial responsibilities for general accounting, patient billing, budgeting, financial planning, decision support, compliance, contracting, reimbursement, admitting, managed care, construction/renovation, treasury, capital markets relations, philanthropic efforts, system support services and tax functions.

  • Responsible for the entire corporation’s fiscal operating results, financial reports, and statements, and administration of its accounting practices and systems. Responsible for reporting monthly financial performance to the board and serving as an administrative liaison to the board’s governance (audit subcommittee) and finance committee.
  • Directs all fiscal activities including accounting, budgets, audit, taxes, the preparation of regulatory agency and government reports, and the systems and procedures necessary to insure and maintain efficient financial control.
  • Presents corporation budget to the finance committee and for board of director’s vote, responsible for adherence to budget allocations. Works with audit committee to ensure policies and control meet established standards and requirements.
  • Responsible for the business aspects of mergers and acquisitions, capital planning, and maintaining the organization’s access to all capital markets.
  • Directs, coordinates, and motivates subordinate staff to ensure that meeting established objectives and standards.
  • Overall responsibility for the investment strategy and monitoring of all corporate funds and pension funds, and serves as the administrative liaison to the board’s finance committee for investment activities
  • Responsible for hiring and conducting performance evaluations for subordinate staff and implementing all personnel actions in accordance with corporate policy.
  • Assists CEO in strategic and long-range planning to meet current and future goals and objectives of the Corporation.
  • Is responsible for department’s operational excellence; ensures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Manage team members which include orientation, development and evaluation of personnel, and monitoring the provision of delivering quality services. Participates in the recruiting, interviewing and selecting of team members following policies, guidelines and applicable laws. Evaluates their performance relative to job goals and requirements. Provides coaching to staff, recommends in-service education programs, and ensures adherence to internal policies and standards.
  • Is responsible for the fiscal management of department; assures proper utilization of organization’s financial resources.
  • Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff.

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Accounting, Finance, other related field required
  • Master's Degree Preferred

Minimum Work Experience

  • 10+ years Healthcare financial management experience Required and
  • 4-6 years' experience in a not-for-profit health care system Required and
  • Multi facility experience Required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other accounting/finance certification (s) Preferred
