What to Expect

This person will work as a member of Tesla’s Engineering Test Team to support component and system level testing of our vehicle exteriors and closures systems (mechatronics, door systems, lighting, glass, etc.) from concept through program release, for the SEMI program. This person would work well under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct hands-on component and system level R&D: characterization, reliability, and durability testing
  • Work directly with reliability and design engineers to support Design Validation Plan (DVP)
  • Development, and lead test planning activities (test scheduling, prioritization, specifications etc.)
  • Develop test fixtures using CAD and work with in-house or external labs for fixture fabrication
  • Conduct detailed inspections such as torque checks, crack checks, CAN signal review, etc. to identify and root cause failures
  • Write necessary scripts to automate testing
  • Conduct data acquisition and instrumentation of sensors such as load cells, strain gages, LVDT etc.
  • Investigate test failures, post process test data and make detailed test reports for clear communication of results
  • Maintain a clean and organized work space in a highly dynamic and fast paced environment
  • Expect up to 10% travel, between Tesla Sites Reno/Fremont/Palo Alto

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Strong engineering fundamentals
  • Test experience from school projects, internships, or other relevant experience
  • You love to be hands-on, genuine curiosity to figure out why something doesn’t work; demonstrated experience debugging and troubleshooting technical problems
  • Experience with sensors (load cells, strain gages, LVDT etc.) and data acquisition systems such as National Instruments, Dewesoft, etc.
  • Experience with CAD and fixture design (CATIA background is a plus)
  • Experience with programming (Python background is a plus), LabVIEW and CAN communication for test automation

Expected Compensation

$80,000 - $300,000/annual salary, depending on level + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
