The Opportunity

Root is seeking a full-time Senior Marketing Writer to redefine insurance through compelling brand and product marketing content, with a focus on comprehensive digital campaigns and building compelling customer experiences with Root’s partners. The role demands creativity and problem-solving to enhance customer experiences, with a strong emphasis on clear, engaging communication. The ideal candidate should excel in both B2C and B2B marketing, adept at updating copy to brand standards, simplifying complex ideas, and ensuring high-quality, stylistically consistent content across various formats, from blogs to billboards.

The Senior Writer will work alongside a diverse group of professionals, including designers, marketers, product managers, and engineers, to help shape the future of insurance.

This role reports to the Sr. Creative Director.

Salary Range: $87,000 - $100,000

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Develop a distinctive and compelling brand voice that resonates with diverse audiences.
  • Create engaging and persuasive content for multi-channel marketing campaigns, including digital, print, and social media.
  • Craft clear, concise, and impactful messaging for product launches and updates.
  • Simplify complex insurance concepts to make them easily understandable for customers.
  • Collaborate with designers and marketing teams to ensure cohesive and visually appealing content.
  • Optimize email marketing strategies to improve customer engagement and conversion rates.
  • Enhance the customer journey with personalized and relevant communication.
  • Conduct market research to stay ahead of industry trends and competitor strategies.
  • Implement SEO best practices to increase organic traffic and search engine rankings.
  • Use data analytics to measure the effectiveness of copy and refine strategies accordingly.
  • Train and mentor junior copywriters to maintain high-quality content standards.
  • Develop compelling narratives and case studies that highlight customer success stories and company innovations.

What You Will Need to Succeed

  • 5+ years of relevant writing/editing experience in a creative, editorial, or marketing environment
  • 2+ years of relevant CX email experience, preferably in either FinTech or an analytics-based environment
  • A solid understanding of email best practices
  • Basic to intermediate experience with A/B testing
  • Concise writing style across all written communication, ensuring a unified and consistent brand presence
  • Experience pitching/presenting creative work to leadership teams
  • Intermediate background in research, with special attention given to customer journey mapping
  • Part-time strategist (Notice it doesn’t say “strategic thinker.” Of course you’re a strategic thinker, but Root writers connect all their content back to strategy. And if for some reason there isn’t a strategy to be found, they’re quick to get the right people in the room to make it happen.)
  • Accustomed to working with legal/compliance teams to review content
  • Self-starter
  • Skilled collaborator
  • Flexible in working style (sometimes design will drive copy, sometimes copy will drive design, and sometimes you’ll volley back and forth)
  • A deep love of the Oxford comma (happy to support those in transition)
