The Opportunity 

  • Sr. Tax Analyst at a Growth-Oriented Energy Company
  • Build the technical expertise to establish a foundation as a multi-faceted tax professional
  • Work within a small group providing experience across various topics regularly 
  • Reporting to the Sr. Tax Manager, you will be proving exemplary customer service to our clients within the organization which range from the financial reporting group, procurement department, as well as senior management.

Key activities include:  

  • Preparation of monthly journal accrual entries related to tax specific items
  • Monthly reconciliation of tax accounts and preparation of related journal entries
  • Preparation of supporting workpapers and tax returns for various income, excise, sales/use, and property tax filings
  • Assist with responses from various state and federal audits
  • Perform SAP queries to obtain information necessary for tax analysis and understand impact of exemptions and coding for vendors as well as tax consequences of sale and purchase transactions
  • Work with customers and vendors to ensure proper documentation exists for tax exemptions/tax treatment of purchases and sales
  • Coordinate with Treasury Group and assist with requesting and processing of periodic tax payments
  • Maintain matrices and lists of jurisdictions in which the company operates for purposes of determining tax filings
  • Monitor and update the tax compliance calendar for filing obligations
  • Maintain information of federal excise tax reporting (i.e., ExSTARS 720-TO and 720-CS, quarterly 720 returns, and annual 2290 Heavy Highway Vehicle returns)
  • Become familiar with Hawaii general excise tax and liquid fuel tax statutes and regulations
  • Obtain information of Washington, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, Montana, and other state statutes with respect to fuel/excise, and sales/use taxes
  • Work with the IT Group and external consultants on enhancements to existing SAP environment as it relates to tax reporting items including but not limited to excise and sales/use taxes

Qualifications 

To meet the basic qualifications for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.

Additional qualifications include: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Accounting/Tax
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in fuel excise/sales tax compliance with bulk/rack reporting
  • Strong knowledge of excise tax and bulk tax reporting
  • Work independently on complex tax scenarios
  • Assertive and ability to influence others
  • CPA or eligible a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel including formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP.
  • SAP experience.
  • Attention to detail and analytical ability to notice inconsistencies.
  • Ability to multitask and take on additional responsibilities as needed.
