Overview:

The role reports to the Holcim North America Senior Project Manager for Carbon Capture and manages, scoping, pre-FEED and FEED studies throughout the project development phases, from initiation to final investment decision. This role leads the engineering effort on assigned projects and coordinates with various Engineering firms, technology licensors, and Holcim functions to ensure a successful final investment decision.

Responsibilities:

▪ Ensure that all projects are developed in alignment with the group's ambitions of zero harm, ensuring best-in-class health, safety, environmental and sustainability performance.

▪ Ensures that Health, Safety, and Environmental values, policies, and standards are maintained and integrated into all engineering project activities.

▪ Plans and coordinates all engineering activities and supports regional business units in preparing carbon-capture project documentation to obtain investment decisions.

▪ Leads and interfaces with experienced & multi-disciplinary engineering firms, suppliers, and operations and internal specialist functions to develop optimal projects in terms of design, layout, lean technical concepts, ease of construction, support, and in line with operational performance and group standards.

▪ Identify & address risks and opportunities in technical & commercial project development to ensure maximum value creation for Holcim.

▪ Proposes innovative technical concepts and applies innovative engineering approaches, solutions, and tools. Stays in touch with industry development trends and best practices.

▪ Direct and manage the interface between engineering and the project's other disciplines, including process engineering, plant personnel, procurement, and contracts.

▪ Ensure that the engineering work on the project is completed on schedule meets Holcim's quality standards, including review meetings and, project management procedures, and predefined deliverables 

▪ Ensure change management is executed promptly and the Internal Stakeholders Department is aware of any deviation from the baseline.

▪ Prepare and manage project development budgets through FEED execution.

▪ Leading and monitoring third parties multi-disciplinary engineering and consulting firms.

▪ Prepare SteerCom presentations and maintain on-time and transparent communication with internal stakeholders.

Key interfaces, stakeholders and relationships: 

The Engineering Manager -Carbon Capture reports to the Senior Project Manager - Carbon Capture. His/her roles, responsibilities and delegation of authorities are defined by the project organization and by the project implementation plan, in compliance with the Holcim Capex Project Management Handbook.

The Engineering Manager interacts with:

  • Senior Project Manager Carbon Capture
  • Cement Industrial and Development team members
  • Country/plant functions: operations, environment, raw material and fuels, logistics, 
  • Group/Regional functions: CEM, Aggregates, RMX), Waste Management/Geocycle, Logistics
  • Corporate HS&E Head
  • Consultants, Engineers, Suppliers, Contractors

Qualifications:

Level of education/qualifications normally required: 

  • Bachelor Degree, preferably in mechanical or process engineering
  • Proven engineering coordination experience in petrochemical, cement and/or similar type of heavy industry with a minimum of 10 years in industrial engineering related fields 
  • Project Management certificate e.g. PMI or similar is desired but not required

Technical / functional skills: 

  • Knowledge in cement plant design, engineering, commissioning and operation.
  • Knowledge in carbon capture technologies 
  • Knowledge of engineering disciplines
  • Basic knowledge in construction. 
  • Strong knowledge of process and mass flow calculations as well as basic design principles used in the cement industry
  • Familiar with and knowledgeable of the various process equipment, material handling equipment and logistic equipment used in the industry
  • Basic knowledge in civil and electrical engineering and basic principles and practices 
  • Capacity to forecast, analyze and mitigate technical risks

Mobility requirements (time spent traveling internationally, nationally etc.): 

  • Able to travel as needed for feasibility studies and supporting project managers
  • Travel required +/-30-50% of the time. Mainly in the USA and Canada
