Sr. Accountant

SUMMARY: 

Our Finance Department is searching for a Sr. Accountant to enhance our team. In this hybrid work environment role, you will collaborate with all levels of Company management to appropriately process day-to-day financial accounting transactions and have primary ownership of the AP process. This is a hands-on position and the ability to multitask and work with others is essential. Reporting to the Associate Director, Assistant Controller, this individual will be a critical member of the finance team, helping to scale the finance function as the company continues to grow.

Job Responsibilities:

  • General Ledger Accounting:
  • Assist in month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet general ledger accounts, including, but not limited to, cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accounts payable and accrued liabilities.
  • Contribute to the preparation of financial statements and provide supporting documentation to ensure timely and accurate filing of quarterly financial statements.
  • Manage the fixed asset register, including recording acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Assist with external audits by providing documentation and explanations related to accounts payable and expense-related transactions.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Accounts Payable Management:
  • Monitor and manage the accounts payable inbox, including assisting in resolving both employee and third-party vendor questions and issues related to all AP matters.
  • Manage the full cycle accounts payable process, including uploading, review and processing invoices in the Prendio accounts payable system, ensuring proper coding and approvals and processing and reconciling Prendio pushes to NetSuite.
  • Maintain accurate and organized vendor records, including W-9 forms, vendor contracts, and contact information.
  • Maintain vendor master data in NetSuite.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and initiate electronic payments, including ACH, wire transfers, and checks.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to prepare and maintain accurate accruals related to accounts payable and other expenses.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve process efficiency and internal controls within the accounts payable function.

Skills, Qualifications, and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field with 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, with a strong focus on general accounting procedures and accounts payable.
  • Experience working in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency in Excel and accounting software and ERP systems; experience with NetSuite and Prendio is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with a strong customer service focus.
  • Prior experience with month-end and year-end closing processes is desirable.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
