The successful candidate for this position will be involved in planning and delivering various occupational and environmental training workshops to an engaging variety of private- and public-sector clients through in-person sessions and using virtual delivery platforms (Zoom, Teams). Knowledge and/or experience in the following areas is preferred: OSHA and WA L&I safety and health regulations, industrial hygiene, EPA and OSHA hazardous materials/waste regulations, and instructional training and design of classes and workshops for adults.

We share your passion. The position is based in Mountlake Terrace, WA and will serve the Pacific Northwest, primarily the greater Puget Sound region.

General Responsibilities:

Provide analysis, design, development, delivery, and evaluation expertise for existing and new instructor-led training and development programs. Organize and execute duties for teaching re-occurring courses both in-person and virtually.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Apply knowledge of Adult Learning Principles and formal instructional design methodologies to multi-location environment.
  • Deliver training programs using a variety of instructional techniques and formats including presentations, group trainings, hands-on, e-learning, and videos generally 3-4 days per week.
  • Define learning needs, determine gaps, and identify potential interventions to achieve client performance objectives.
  • Partner with training team, field management and subject matter experts to develop training resources designed to serve clients and equip new and existing employees with applicable EHS skills and competencies needed for success.
  • Create and update content for existing and new courses that may include dynamic and accurate slide presentations, individual and group exercises, course exams and quizzes, course handouts and hands-on simulation exercises.
  • Develop interactive learning for presentation via web conferencing.
  • Create post-training follow up including job aids.
  • Develop surveys and other methods of evaluating trainings and recommend changes to course offerings, content and teaching methods as appropriate.
  • Provide objective feedback to attendees at the conclusion of training, to enhance their overall educational experience.
  • Analyze and evaluate training results. Assess training effectiveness by monitoring performance, soliciting input from students, clients, and managers, etc.
  • Use own judgment to maintain orderly and effective classroom. Independently resolves issues and conflicts in the classroom. Establish own schedule for teaching preparation and classroom audio-visual content development.
  • Create and deliver a positive, fun and rewarding training experience for students and clients.
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects. Participate in safety ‘pre-task planning’. Report any safety issues or concerns to management. 
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Support and participate in instructional design process.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, environmental studies or related sciences, safety management, organizational development, learning and development, training, adult or secondary education or related field and two years’ experience developing and delivering learning. Or in lieu of a related degree, a minimum of 4 years’ closely-related experience.
  • Experience in tracking and monitoring training effectiveness, utilizing evaluation instruments such as surveys, and testing.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, government regulations and technical procedures.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Power Point, Word, Outlook, and Teams required. Strong proficiency using the internet required. Working familiarity with Excel. Proficiency with Learning Management Systems helpful. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to use sound judgment and critical thinking to solve conflicts and problems that arise in the classroom.
  • Communicate with students and clients by providing responsive, courteous, and professional customer service.
  • Background and knowledge in hazardous waste and hazardous materials management/response, asbestos abatement safety and inspections, lead paint safety and inspections, physical hazards, confined spaces, respiratory protection, and personal protective equipment preferred.
  • Background and knowledge of supporting regulatory and industry standards that underpin class content preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history is required.
  • Eligible to become a Notary Public in Washington State for notarizing student forms in certain classes.
  • Proficiency in Spanish helpful, but not required.
