Job Description

We are on the lookout for a motivated Software Engineer to be part of our dynamic Ruby development team at Zendesk. At this entry level, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the design and development of pivotal features for our Ruby-based backend systems.

Our team is responsible for implementing the robust services that support Zendesk's innovative mobile solutions, including APIs and SDKs that integrate seamlessly with some of the most widely used apps today.

What you’ll be doing 

  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient Ruby code for new features and services.
  • Participate in code reviews and engage in pair programming sessions with peers to maintain high code quality.
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and fix defects.
  • Contribute to technical documentation and specifications.
  • Own and manage the entire lifecycle of features, from conception through deployment, performance tuning, and maintenance. 
  • Collaborate with the team on how best to work.
  • Taking responsibility for all levels of testing, including setting up best practices for unit, integration, system, and acceptance testing, ensuring the highest quality of the codebase.

What you bring to the role

  • Understanding and familiarity with crafting and working with backend technologies.
  • A foundational understanding of Ruby.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails or another MVC style framework.
  • Experience in relational database management systems and SQL.
  • Ambition and high motivation to understand complex systems, focused on identifying and decomposing requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You can effectively express your point of view to others and just as importantly, actively listen to others ensuring a good discussion.
  • Comfortable with picking up new technologies and languages. 

Nice to have:

  • Some experience with Scala or a motivation and ability to learn it.
  • Experience with TypeScript
  • Experience working on the front-end with React.
  • Experience working with Datadog.
  • Understanding of SLIs, SLOs & error budgets.

Tech Stack

  • Most services in Zendesk are written in Ruby / Ruby On Rails with some written in Scala. We also have services written in React and TypeScript. 
  • We rely on multiple data stores such as MySQL, Memcached, Redis, Kafka, DynamoDB.

The Poland annualized base salary range for this position is zł112,000.00-zł168,000.00. Please note that while the salary range represents the minimum and maximum base salary rate for this position, the actual compensation offered will be based on job related capabilities, applicable experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for bonus, benefits, or related incentives that will be communicated during the offer stage.

Hybrid: In this role, our hybrid experience is designed at the team level to give you a rich onsite experience packed with connection, collaboration, learning, and celebration - while also giving you flexibility to work remotely for part of the week. This role must attend our local office for part of the week. The specific in-office schedule is to be determined by the hiring manager.
