PRIMARY PURPOSE
This technical position is responsible for managing Electrical and Low Voltage engineering design of Simon retail and mixed-use commercial developments. The positions’ goal is to achieve cost effective technical solutions which enable corporate goals and objectives to be met.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Management of Electrical Consultants: Provide technical oversight and direct project management associated with designs prepared by contracted engineering consultants. Jointly manage, with Simon’s Project Manager, the MEP consultant’s contract, and invoices. Jointly manage, with Simon’s Design Manager, the drawing production process to ensure accuracy and compliance with project schedule. Provide oversight to ensure compliance with Simon MEP Criteria and Best Engineering Practices. Review drawings, specifications, RFP’s, bid proposals, etc. and provide feedback as required.
B. Simon Information Services and Low Voltage Management: Manage the integration of all the Low Voltage systems into the overall project design and construction process. Meet with Simon IS to review current design standards and then coordinate with preferred Simon Vendors and Design Consultants. Schedule and conduct Low Voltage (LV) Coordination Meetings with the Design Consultants and the Simon Preferred LV Vendors.
C. Joint Management of Lighting Designers: In conjunction with the Design Manager and Project Manager, direct the contracted lighting consultants with respect to the development of interior and exterior lighting systems and controls. This shall include task, decorative, site and deck lighting as required. Provide feedback to the design team regarding light output, energy efficiency, durability, ease of maintenance plus, fixture cost.
D. Construction Administration: Support Project Manager and contract MEP/FP consultant through construction observation, submittal evaluation, the review of tenant plans (in conjunction with Tenant Coordination) and interfacing with tenant’s engineers as appropriate. Monitor work for compliance with Simon MEP Criteria and Best Engineering Practices.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Answer technical questions for Property Management, Tenant Coordination, Risk Management and other departments. Review drawings, specifications, RFP’s, bid proposals, etc. and provide feedback as required.
B. Interface regularly with Energy Services and Procurement for purposes of evaluating new products (i.e., light fixtures, meters, switchgear, etc.) and providing technical input whenever national contracts are bid.
C. Provide review of vendor specific Electrical Vehicle charging stations across Simon’s portfolio.
D. As requested, provide technical feedback and recommendations to the Head of Sustainability regarding opportunities for implementing sustainable initiatives.
