Summary:

At KDC Inc. we welcome you to apply for a summer 2024 internship. During this internship you will work with our experienced team in their day-to-day operations both in the field and the office. All interns will become more knowledgeable in electrical contracting by being exposed to our various divisions such as project management, estimating, purchasing, virtual design and more. Through this hands-on job training, interns will learn key functions to solve challenges faced in this industry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Throughout the summer, interns will have the opportunity to participate in many networking activities outside of their day-to-day duties. Shadowing key contributors of other departments. Career-Relevant Experience – Interns gain practical, career-related experience that goes beyond classroom learning, providing a foundation for their future endeavors in the construction industry. Potential full-time employment opportunities – Upon successful completion of our internship program, there will be opportunities to return for the following summer as well as full-time employment opportunities post-graduation.

Include the following. Other duties will likely be assigned.

  • Review and understand contract and bid documents.
  • Review and understand scope during bidding and project turnover.
  • Assist with project document control, including but not limited to, permits, submittals, RFI’s, change orders, correspondence, etc.
  • Learn and utilize purchasing procedures, warehouse and/or vendor storage protocols and deliveries.
  • Get up to date with our safety protocols and training needed or required.
  • Review and/or develop project budgets and billings.
  • Create and maintain project schedule.
  • Develop material release logs, RFI log and light fixture log.
  • Create POs for major equipment and subs.
  • Process field work orders, change orders, budget adjustments for review.
  • Attend all necessary meetings with both internal and external entities to review scheduling and delivery, work plans, job progress, change order negotiation meetings, manpower, and solutions to setbacks.
  • Prepare labor hour documentation.
  • Support accounting department in monthly billings and
  • Gather information for changes in work and turnover.
  • Assist field personnel in closeout of project.
  • Obtain as-builts from field and reports from vendors/subcontractors.
  • Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.

Preferred Education and/or experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Pursuing Bachelor of Science with an engineering or construction management focus preferred.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and city regulations and guidelines.
  • Computer Skills - must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, (i.e. Outlook, Word, and Excel)

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
