Position Summary:

Synthekine is seeking a motivated and proactive Spatial Transcriptomics and Immunohistochemistry scientist in the Department of Translational Pathology at our Menlo Park, CA location. Reporting to the Senior Director of Translational Pathology, the candidate will work independently in a well-furnished lab with access to fully automated staining platforms and cutting-edge research tools such as Nanostring GeoMx, Akoya PhenoImager HT, Vectra 3, Bond Rx, Dako and Visiopharm image analysis platform to perform complex technical and analytical tasks with minimal guidance of the manager. 

The ideal candidate will be an expert in the spatial and single cell transcriptomics technological and analytical (R Studio with GeoMx packages, Phenoptr Reports) methodologies and multi/high-plex IHC methodologies, be able to analyze the underlying biology and scientific hypothesis of the projects. A successful candidate will be self-motivated to learn new technologies and be eager to proactively contribute to the projects. The individual will be part of a highly collaborative, fast growing and dynamic team that will support pre-clinical and clinical research in oncology, cell therapy and immunology. 

Responsibilities:

  • Independently perform Nanostring GeoMx experiments on Human, NHP and Rodent samples.
  • Independently perform complex method development and routine staining of Multiplex IHC panels with markers of interest as determined by project needs.
  • Independently perform Imaging and analysis of completed experiments using established tools or exhibit ability to develop new tools to add capabilities to achieve the desired analysis competently.
  • Routine histology technical experience (tissue trimming, processing, embedding, sectioning) or willingness to learn, is highly desired but not required. 

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Cell Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, or similar fields with minimum of 2+ years related experience (Scientist II); minimum of 4+ years related experience (Sr. Scientist). Persons with MS/BS degree who have comparable depth and breadth of training and experience and who meet job-specific criteria are eligible for consideration.
  • Hands-on experience in multiplex/ high-plex IHC method development and digital image analysis; 2 years of hands-on Nanostring GeoMx/ nCounter benchwork and analytical work.
  • Hands-on experience in presenting data to scientific and executive teams as needed.
  • Hands-on experience with setting up and operating Nanostring GeoMx, Leica Bond Rx and Dako Autostainer platforms for various analysis as needed.
  • Hands-on experience with Nanostring GeoMx technology to perform WTA or CTA analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with digital pathology/ whole slide scanning/ digital/ automated signal quantification to generate and analyze the data and interpret the results for communication to the project teams. 
  • Excellent record keeping, written and oral communication skills, use of ELN.
  • Experience with Akoya PhenoImager HT/Polaris/Vectra multi-spectral imaging system is highly desired.
  • Hands-on experience with R studio, Akoya Phenoptr Reports and GeoMx R analysis modules/ software packages.
  • Experience in managing and tracking multiple projects simultaneously.

The anticipated salary range for the position based in our Menlo Park, CA office is $113,000-$137,750 for Scientist II and $129,000-$156,750 for Sr. Scientist. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type, and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Synthekine is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
