Role/ Department

Northern Trust is seeking an Environmental, Social, and Governance (“ESG”) Regulatory Analyst to support us in our reporting journey. This individual will play a key role in global ESG regulatory requirements including but not limited to the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission climate reporting requirements, California Climate Legislation, among other non-financial reporting directives.

The successful individual will be required to have extensive interaction and build strong relationships which include but are not limited to, Northern Trust’s Climate Risk team, Corporate Sustainability, Inclusion and Social Impact (“CSISI”), Legal, Global Financial Control, and local Finance teams in EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) and APAC (Asia Pacific). The ESG Regulatory Analyst, who will be based in EMEA, will join Northern Trust’s ESG Finance Team within the Corporate Controller’s Group and report directly to the ESG Controller who is located in Chicago, with dotted line reporting to the EMEA Financial Controller based in Limerick.

The key responsibilities of the role

  • Monitor mandatory ESG-related regulatory reporting requirements and emerging regulation
  • Develop and maintain a general understanding of requirements for mandatory ESG-related disclosures
  • Ensure adherence to deadlines
  • Develop compliance roadmaps and perform gap analysis if/when needed; work with business partners to address gaps
  • Engage proactively to provide solutions and guidance on ESG regulatory requirements
  • Identify and manage any process improvements to gain efficiencies
  • Engage with subject matter experts when developing disclosure narratives via working with Legal, Controllers, and subject matter experts across functions
  • Support audit and assurance activities for reporting

Skills/Experience

The successful candidate will benefit from having:

  • Previous experience in accounting, management consulting, ESG reporting, or another related field
  • Working knowledge of current and emerging climate reporting frameworks, and regulations
  • A part or full accounting qualification, or Bachelors degree in Accounting.
  • Ability to be adept in advancing/new technology, while having basic skills such as Excel/Word
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and engaging with diverse stakeholders
  • Process improvement, including experience in documenting and implementing work processes
