The Process Catalysis and Adsorbents Scale-up group in Beachwood, Ohio focuses on the research, development and scale up of innovative catalysts and adsorbents for the chemical and energy industries. 

As a Sr Chemist I, you will support the interface between Research, Manufacturing and Commercial groups. This position is for a highly motivated scientist to lead projects related to process catalyst R&D in a laboratory and pilot plant environment with special focus on Custom Catalysts, (i. e. catalysts exclusively developed for a third party). 

As a Sr. Chemist I, You Create Chemistry By...

  • Utilizing your advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science to drive the development of new catalyst formulations, the improvement of existing recipes, and the application of new manufacturing technologies while working with technicians in lab, pilot plant and plant trial activities. You will be a technical resource for the North American catalyst production community.
  • Leveraging your related experience to develop creative solutions for the formulation of Base Metal, Precious Metal or Zeolite based products.
  • Collaborating with scientists, engineers, manufacturing associates and tollers. You will interface with business colleagues and customers.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously, handling multiple tasks with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-paced lab and pilot plant atmosphere.
  • Utilizing your in-depth knowledge to demonstrate excellent laboratory and analytical skills, including detailed record keeping and knowledge of safe handing of chemicals and preparation of detailed work instructions and SOP’s.
  • Actively participating in all BASF safety practices and programs driving our safety-first culture.

If you...

  • Have a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science with at least 3 years of related experience in Catalyst research, scale up or manufacturing, OR a MS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science with 5+ years of related experience in Catalyst development. Also if you have a BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science with 8+ years of related experience in Catalyst development.
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of research principles and techniques with proven ability to also work outside field(s) of specialization as well as familiarity with heterogeneous catalysis formulations and manufacturing would be strongly preferred.
  • Have strong written/verbal communication, data analysis, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a strong background in the use of statistical tools such as DOE, ANOVA, and Lean Six Sigma is a plus.
  • Have strong digitalization skills. Are familiar with Microsoft platform.
