A Snapshot of Your Day 

As a Commodity Manager, your primary role revolves around developing and driving commodity strategies aimed at achieving targeted improvements in various key areas. Your day typically involves:

  • Cost Savings: You focus on finding opportunities to reduce costs within your assigned commodities through negotiations, supplier consolidation, and strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Quality Assurance: You prioritize maintaining high-quality standards by collaborating with suppliers to implement quality control measures and resolve any quality-related issues promptly.
  • Lead Times: You handle lead times by optimizing inventory levels, streamlining supply chain processes, and fostering proactive communication with suppliers to minimize delays and improve overall efficiency.
  • Supplier Identification and Management: You actively seek out new suppliers, evaluate their capabilities, and negotiate contracts to expand your supplier base while maintaining strong relationships with existing suppliers through regular communication and performance evaluations.

In essence, your role as a Commodity Manager is to drive central initiatives that enhance cost savings, on-time delivery, quality, and lead times while effectively running the supplier network to support the organization's overall objectives.

How You’ll Make an Impact 

  • Development and execution of commodity strategies aimed at achieving targeted improvements in cost savings, on-time delivery, quality, and lead times.
  • Engage with local and global partners within the commodities to which they are assigned.
  • Lead cross-functional commodity teams
  • Develop comprehensive strategies that support Siemens Energy business objectives.
  • Responsible for Global Strategic Sourcing for the commodity, including developing suppliers globally.
  • Lead specific supplier relationships fulfilling the accountabilities of the Supplier Relationship Leader.
  • Responsible for the creation and/or deployment of Cost Models for designated commodities/services/products and the development and delivery of the agreed financial commitments.
  • Responsible for developing the relevant commodity and parent and/or vendor level supplier strategies and of their execution.
  • Facilitate category teams and develop collaborative, trusting relationship with partners.
  • Implement processes and programs to drive continuous improvement.
  • Keep current with global market conditions of commodity category and apply data appropriately to negotiations with suppliers that will lead to long term agreements.
  • Apply market data, supplier risk analysis and company's strategic direction to develop and implement long term commodity strategy.
  • Visit suppliers as necessary to analyze facilities and processes, negotiate pricing, quality, and lead-times, which lead to maintaining effective long-term supplier relationships.
  • Work with various functional areas such as Engineering, Quality and Finance in order to resolve problems associated with the commodity.
  • Develop and implement scoring methods (pricing/business alignment matrix) to accurately assess new suppliers’ strategic alignment Siemens Energy business environment.

What You Bring

  • University Degree or equivalent experience in Business, International Business, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, or degree in Engineering, with strong preference in Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Experience (minimum 5 years) in at least one of the fields - Strategic Procurement, Commodity Management, Strategy Consulting
  • Advanced Negotiation experience
  • Technical Knowledge in Sophisticated Negotiation Concepts, eAuctions, Contract Negotiations
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% of time
  • Experience in mechanical power transmission components and systems is preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Advanced Negotiation experience
  • Experience handling Long Term Contracts and negotiating sophisticated terms and conditions.
  • Excellent change management skills and proven ability to lead change.
