Tax Accountant

What Will You Do?

The Staff Tax Accountant will assist in the preparation of federal and state income tax returns and sales and use tax returns for various Ashley Company entities. This position will work directly with the Tax Manager on the timely completion of income tax and sales and use tax audits as necessary. The Staff Tax Accountant is responsible for the timely filing of all tax returns and accountable for compliance with applicable federal and state tax laws. 

Primary Functions:

1. Prepare income tax work papers and returns for specified Ashley Company entities; ensure the correct amount of tax is paid throughout the year to avoid penalties and to minimize tax payments. 

2. Prepare sales and use tax work papers for specified Ashley Company entities to ensure the Sales Tax Accountant has accurate and timely data for preparation of the sales and use tax returns. 

3. Review sales and use tax returns to ensure accurate reporting. 

4. Gather information for any returns under audit and work with the auditors. 

5. Maintain the paperless document retention system.

6. Prepare property tax returns for all of the Ashley facilities, including retail stores. 

7. Coordinate appeals of property tax assessments. 

8. Demonstrate the Company’s Core and Growth Values in the performance of all job functions. 

Job Qualifications 

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting, or equivalent work experience, Required 
  • 2 years’ experience in an Accounting related position or internship, Required • Prior tax research either from prior work experience or through education 
  • Sales tax preparation • Tax law • Document management system • Effective time management and organizational skills • Work independently as well as in a team environment • Analytical and problem solving skills • Maintain confidentiality • Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement • Handle multiple projects simultaneously within established time constraints • Proficient computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite, internet • Perform under strong demands in a fast-paced environment • Display empathy, understanding and patience with employees and external customers • Respond professionally in situations with difficult employee/vendor/customer issues or inquiries
