Position Summary: 

This role is a key position within the Intercontinental Marketing team in the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (AMEA) regional marketing organization. This role is responsible for developing, managing, and implementing our Korean marketing strategy which includes commercialisation and go-to-market strategies for Illumina’s product portfolios across all segments. The role also provides support to facilitate and enable the Korea commercial team and Channel Partners, as appropriate, to help reach the company’s revenue goals and the translation of market insights and product knowledge into competitive strategies and tactics.

The Marketing Lead, Korea will work closely with their marketing and commercial colleagues to ensure alignment of focus areas and to support the country’s commercial goals. This individual will also ensure that the activities that are executed in Korea are in line and contribute to the overall targets of Illumina’s global marketing organization. This position will also be responsible for managing the Korean marketing budget, ensuring that it is utilized in an efficient and impactful way and that it is not exceeded.

This individual will be responsible for: development of product marketing strategies, both short and medium-term, including planning and executing of regional strategies for new product introductions. A key element of the role will be collecting, evaluating, reacting to and communicating field information, communicating customer feedback to influence Illumina’s product development strategy and roadmap as well as commercial goals and objectives. The Marketing Lead, Korea will need to work closely with regional and global segment marketing, product management and other marketing groups across the organization to assure they have appropriate visibility into up-coming key launches, corporate priorities and to assure alignment with global strategies.

The ideal candidate for this position will have strong knowledge of the genomics market in Korea and demonstrated success and operational experience in Korea. In this position, the candidate would have the opportunity to collaborate across multi-disciplinary, international teams and cultivate key partnerships with KOLs in support of strategic programs. Successful candidates will combine strong scientific understanding with strategic analysis, business acumen and leadership skills.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Formulate the overall Korean marketing strategy to support Illumina’s commercial goals in country. Develop go to market strategies and drive execution of those strategies with clear milestones and action plans.
  • Assess market potential and align company initiatives with Illumina’s strategic position, drive execution of long-term strategy with clear milestones and action plans. Work collaboratively with the marketing and leadership teams across Illumina’s segments, business units and regulatory functions to direct Illumina's marketing strategy including product development and management, portfolio positioning, and sales enablement.
  • Partner with commercial teams and the broader marketing team to execute marketing programs, events and campaigns related to key segments and products. Ensure that there is alignment of activities and product strategies internally, with SCPs and other parties as well as clear metrics associated with delivery of these activities.
  • Solicit and integrate the voice of the customer (VOC) into Illumina’s product development team to guide future commercialization potential. This would include customer visits with the sales team to key accounts and building and managing close relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs), the Illumina sales team and SCPs (as required). Work with all parties to conceive and execute marketing plans for key market segments in Korea.
  • Partner with thought leaders to design and manage collaboration opportunities that support Illumina’s market development goals. Publication of impactful clinical and economic evidence will form the cornerstone of efforts to impact professional society guidelines, increase awareness among medical professionals, and achieve supportive reimbursement policies.
  • Work with all internal parties and stakeholders to conceive and execute marketing plans for key market segments in Korea.
  • Stay current and report on competitor activities and market dynamics. Leverage and communicate market information internally to best inform Illumina’s product development, regulatory and market entry strategies.
  • Responsible for collection, measurement evaluation and communication of information relating to the effectiveness of marketing activities carried out in Korea.
  • As a key member of Illumina’s marketing team, actively participate in shaping the continued evolution of the Korean marketing organization.
  • Take on the role as the marketing representative of the Korea Commercial Leadership team, and other country/sub-regional/regional teams.
  • Collaborate within a complex, matrixed organizational structure, demonstrate an ability to organize projects and see them through to completion. Work with internal and external stakeholders, partners and government affairs to enable clinical customers to operate in both regulated and unregulated markets.

Preferred Experience/Education/Skills:

  • Minimum of 8 years of life science marketing experience with a Bachelor’s degree in the sciences field. Master’s or PhD is preferred.
  • 1-3 years of Management experience
  • MBA degree would be a plus
  • Previous hands-on experience executing successful marketing programs in Korea
  • Experience and understanding of genetic technologies and how they can be utilized in in a variety of applications.
  • Experience in strategic consulting or product management would be welcomed as would business strategy, business development, sales, or marketing experience related to genomics and clinical practice.
  • Ability to influence across an organization at all levels, including previous experience in a highly matrixed organization would be preferred.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work both collaboratively and independently to drive results
