GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: 

We are seeking a Sr. Research Engineer with specific electronics background to design, test, and validate switch-mode, Class-D shim amplifiers to use in ongoing experiments conducted by the MR Physics and Instrumentation Group at the Martinos Center. The candidate must have a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent background. The engineer will work closely with Dr. Jason Stockmann on a new shim amplifier design with improved efficiency and reduced heat dissipation as compared with previous linear shim amplifiers. The project will involve testing the amplifier in the MRI scanner environment to ensure full electromagnetic compatibility with no adverse impact on image quality due to the switching electronic components. 

The Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is a world-class research institute that focuses on the development and application of advanced biomedical imaging technologies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Printed circuit board layout software (KiCAD, EAGLE, etc.)
• Matlab or Python simulation and data processing skills
• LT-SPICE or equivalent for circuit modeling
• basic mechanical skills (for making cables and connectors, enclosures, instrument front panels, etc.). Electronics test and measurement techniques including proficiency with oscilloscopes, data loggers, network analyzers, and spectrum analyzers. 

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: 

• Experience in Analog circuit design
• Experience in Power electronics
• Experience in Basic optimization

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree

Preferred: Master's Degree

Degree in Electronics Engineering required

EXPERIENCE: 

Required:

• Minimum 2years of hands-on experience
• Minimum 2 year of experience with scientific research work (in academia and/or industry) required

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

• Work in research laboratory.
• MGH policies governing appropriate laboratory attire will be followed including use of personal protective equipment.
