HDR is looking for a Senior Project Manager - Electrical Engineering to join our nationally ranked Power Generation practice within HDR’s Resources Business Group in the South Atlantic Area (NC, SC, GA). Our ideal candidate brings a strong background in project management and power industry consulting, with experience in the power generation and industrial markets. This individual will work with the hydropower, power generation, renewables, and cross-sector teams to scope and deliver Owner’s Engineer projects related to turbine-generator and balance of plant maintenance and upgrades for utility and non-utility power clients in the Southeast. This includes preparing proposals and then managing scope, schedule, budget, and multi-disciplinary teams. They must be familiar with managing projects and key performance indicators, coordinating and preparing schedules, and problem resolution. They will also be expected to work closely with national and regional Renewable and Power Generation leadership to develop client relationships and provide strategic thinking in future directions for our clients and programs. They must have the ability to understand and leverage the skill sets of HDR subject matter experts to execute projects that are awarded. On a day-to-day basis, the Senior Project Manager will be expected to:

  • Serve as a Project Manager for Owners Engineer (OE)/design/front end engineering projects.
  • Possess and maintain an understanding of how clients perceive their technical problems and can package HDR expertise as solutions to these problems, and support marketing (client development) leadership in crafting client capture plan strategies.
  • Manage and assist in execution of electrical discipline lead OE/design/Front end engineering projects
  • Work with client development leadership to prioritize business development efforts.
  • Identify and develop opportunities to expand services to clients.
  • Champion a quality culture, especially within production teams.
  • Support risk management activities for contract reviews and project deliverables, and provide direct interface with legal department and business group leadership.
  • Support technical messaging at professional organizations and industry events by delivering presentations on HDR’s unique capabilities in the industry.
  • Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project’s lifecycle (from development and initiation to close-out).
  • Be responsible for all aspects of complex small to medium projects or routine large projects.
  • Produce and coordinate several small to medium projects concurrently.
  • Establish and maintain client relations, and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings.
  • Conduct work sessions for deliverable development in conjunction with other staff and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate staffing and workload through entire project life cycle, and ensure completion of deliverables on schedule.
  • Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to budget and schedule.
  • Work with the Accounting, Operational and Business leadership for periodic project reviews.
  • Implement QA/QC procedures.
  • Perform routine and non-routine tasks on multiple projects simultaneously, monitor and actively manage tight project budgets and schedules, champion projects and pursuits, and identify and manage resources for project execution.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, complete tasks within tight deadlines.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • 10 years of power and/or industrial industry electrical engineering experience
  • 5 years of project management experience
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP Certification preferred
  • Local candidates are preferred
