About the Role

As the Director of Partnerships, you will be responsible for fostering robust collaborations with esteemed government organisations, institutional leaders, and corporate stakeholders across China, to uphold Elsevier’s long-standing commitment to empowering Chinese researchers and institutions to excel globally. You will collaborate closely with both local and global teams from STM Journals, along with cross-functional groups, to drive innovations and continuous optimizations for Elsevier journals, ensuring they cater seamlessly to the needs of Chinese researchers and institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Establishing and nurturing collaborations with government organisations, institutional and hospital leaders, trade bodies, and corporate stakeholders throughout China, fostering strong relationships that drive mutual success.
  • Leading key strategic partnerships and initiatives, overseeing execution in close collaboration with both local and global cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Driving innovative partnership models that elevate the reputation of Elsevier journals and improve Chinese customer experience, setting new benchmarks in the industry.
  • Being recognized as a thought leader in the Chinese scientific market, leveraging profound market and customer insights to shape strategic directions and inform decision-making.
  • Navigating a complex matrix organisation with confidence, collaborating closely with other China-based teams to execute commercial strategy effectively and efficiently.
  • Providing leadership, guidance and mentoring to the direct team, as well as extending support to the broader STMJ China team as relevant, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth. 

Requirements

  • Education: MSc/MBA, PhD degree a plus
  • At least 8 years of experience in STM publishing 
  • Deep knowledge of the Chinese research market and personal network of research and government leaders in China
  • In-depth understanding of the China publishing market 
  • Experience in building collaborations and partnerships in China
  • Commercial know how and skills in and comfort with supporting negotiation of financial agreements
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, influence decisions, and strive for continuing improvement
  • Collaborative spirit, demonstrated skills in building relationships with scientific community and with internal colleagues, and experience bringing groups together over aligned goals
  • Tolerance for ambiguity and comfort with navigating complexity
  • Creativity in finding new approaches to solve problems and build engagement
  • Clear, constructive, and inspiring communication
