Job Summary and Qualifications

A Principal Software Architect role is responsible for providing technical leadership across all facets of system and application design and implementation. This role will perform technical feasibility, process oversight, and impact analysis to make recommendations for infrastructure and software solutions and platforms.

The candidate will provide leadership and technical mentorship to foster a collaborative and effective working relationship between business, analysts, developers, and other teams within the organization. The role requires the candidate to possess excellent communication, proposal, and presentation skills in order to inform senior management and development staff of status and direction.

This position is within an innovation team that operates on multiple initiatives across the enterprise. The candidate must be comfortable in moving to different technical ecosystems from project to project that will require discovery and adaptation to systems, teams, and business stakeholders.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Promote a collaborative team environment and work closely with colleagues to achieve business objectives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders (e.g. business stakeholders, product owners, project managers, and end users) to understand functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Lead Investigations and solution proposals to development and design problems.
  • Guide team members in scope of work estimation and forecasting.
  • Be an HCA community leader on architecture, design, implementation, and security standards and best practices for a specific domain in software development.
  • Performing proof-of-concept or proof-of-technology tasks to get buy-in from cohorts and stakeholders.
  • Preparing and presenting designs, feasibility, and impact analysis of solutions to a variety of audiences from senior management to analysts and developers
  • Producing sufficient architectural and design documentation necessary to properly guide the development teams, items may include: concept/mixed-diagrams, sequence or activity diagrams, entity relationship models, boundary analysis diagrams, and deployment diagrams.
  • Formulate unit and integration tests and conduct functional and performance testing where appropriate.
  • Adhere to and influence established development practices and processes.
  • Practices and adheres to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement.”
  • Training and mentoring of peers and other staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree Computer Science or related field required
  • 12+ years of experience a Software development or engineering roles required

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Behaviors:

  • Growth mindset and a willingness to learn new skills, technologies, and frameworks.
  • Full-stack experience working with various languages, platforms, and other tools, systems including, but not limited to some combination of: SQL or noSQL databases (e.g. SQL Server, DB2, Teradata, CosmosDB, MongoDB), ETL and data-pipeline type tools (e.g. SSIS, GCP DataFlow, Azure DataFactory), message queue type systems (e.g. Azure EventHub, GCP PubSub, Kafka, RabbitMQ), microservice environments (e.g. Docker/Kubernetes, C#, Java), APIs (e.g. REST, OpenAPI), and front-end frameworks (e.g. ReactJs, VueJS, Angular).
  • Experience interfacing with or working within CRM, ERP, eCommerce, or EMR/EHR solutions and common integration patterns.
  • Experience with DevOps tooling (e.g. GitHub, Azure DevOps)
  • Experience with diagramming tools (e.g. Visio)
  • Strong Experience in cloud native, deploying within cloud environments, serverless development and/or container-based solutions.
  • Strong understanding of best practices in the design of REST-based APIs
  • Strong Understanding of agile methodology and software development lifecycles.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical information in a condensed manner to various stakeholders verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to lead community events with a focus on software development or delivery.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Troubleshooting skills including experience working with utilities for log analysis and load testing
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team to specific outcomes.
  • Strong ability to understand context for code, the codebase, and its relation to business objectives.
  • Understanding of IT contracting and purchasing practices.
  • Ability to lead technical interviews of potential candidates of a vary levels.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.

Occasional Travel: The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis.
