The Sequencing Sales Specialist’s role is to be a customer-facing technical resource for the Illumina Sequencing product lines, to support a team of account managers in achieving regional sales objectives, and to provide regular analysis of market and competitor activities. 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Represents the company professionally, scientifically, ethically and morally at all times in customer-facing meetings, seminars, phone calls, virtual calls, and emails.
  • Reads, understands, and communicates key findings from current scientific and clinical sequencing publications as well as technical information on Illumina products to the sales team and customers.
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of the market environment including current and possible future market trends, applications, and information affecting the business; industry trends; competition and competitive environment; and marketplace strategies and tactics. Keeps current on 3rd party methods that utilize Illumina platforms for readout.
  • Prepares and presents technical seminars on Illumina Sequencing product lines and sequencing applications.
  • Assist with and develop workshops, seminar series, and other marketing activities as required.
  • Works closely and effectively with a wide array of teams as an overlay sales specialist, including marketing, local Territory Account Managers, Insides Sales Reps, other Specialists, and District Sales Managers to support them in achieving strategic goals.
  • Regularly trains others in the sales team on current/new product, application and relevant scientific information.
  • Coordinates and communicates strategic business plans effectively to manager.
  • Assists District Sales Manager and Territory Account Managers with the development of customized territory plans yearly and quarterly.
  • Develops long term customer relationships as a trusted consultant. Works with other company personnel as intermediaries (when appropriate) to introduce customers to internal teams.
  • Distinguishes between regular sales and business development opportunities. When the latter is identified, bring Business Development into the customer relationship.
  • Proactively uses and supports the expanded network of national and global sequencing specialists.

Educational requirement:

BA/BS or MS or equivalent degree in Life/Biological Sciences is required.

Ph.D. or Masters in Biological Sciences, Genetics, Genomics, or related field is highly desired. MBA is a plus.

Preferred Experiential Background:

  • Technological expert on the majority of relevant Next Generation Sequencing applications, informatics, and the clinical and research sequencing markets.
  • Life Sciences or Genomics customer-facing sales or support experience preferred
  • Strong technical presentation skills. Comfortable interacting with audiences of different levels
  • Able to develop and maintain deep current knowledge of genomics and sequencing applications
  • Highly self-motivated, independent, and successful individual who enjoys a challenging and dynamic work environment
  • Strong desire to win business and establish long term customer relationships
  • Excellent time management, organizational and interpersonal skills. Team player.
  • Detail and service-oriented individual.
  • Highly adaptable and independent.
  • Travel ~ 50% within territory, with some trips outside territory.

The estimated base salary range for the Sales Specialist - Sequencing, Silicon Valley District role based in the United States of America is: $121,900 - $182,900. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
