The Multimedia Technologies unit develops state-of-the-art audio-visual technologies and system solutions. We drive the standardization of future media technologies in leading standardization organizations. 

Responsibilities

What you will learn and contribute to

We are offering a Principal level position for an expert in high-level syntax design for video codecs. This position can be based in Tampere, Finland/Munich, Germany/London, UK/San Diego, USA.

  • You will design high-level syntax (HLS) features for next generation video codecs and their integration into video systems
  • You will author contributions to high-level codec design for relevant international video coding standardization projects.
  • As a member of our research staff, you should also initiate and create research ideas as well as contribute to research work that leads to technology transfer, publications, and Intellectual Property.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Your skills and experience

  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in video coding and high-level syntax design
  • You have at least a Master’s degree. A PhD degree is preferred.
  • You have a proven track record of developing high-level syntax for video codecs and their integration into end-to-end systems.
  • Excellent knowledge of image and/or video signal processing and compression with hands-on expertise in the latest video coding standards, such as Versatile Video Coding or High Efficiency Video Coding.
  • Excellent knowledge on common multimedia communication protocols and formats, such as the Real-time Transport Protocol, MPEG-2 transport stream, and the ISO base media file format as well as video system specifications, such as MPEG-DASH.
  • Good software development skills in C and C++
  • Good verbal English communication and presentation skills as well as excellent technical and scientific writing skills in English.

The following additional skills or experience are valued:

  • You have contributed to international standardization e.g. in JVET or MPEG
  • You have a track record in publishing in scientific journals in the fields of video/image signal processing and compression.
