Position Summary of Responsibilities

The Data Engineer II is responsible for the process of collecting, transporting, and storing data with the goal to provide data for business needs including internal and external customers according to documented business requirements and regulatory requirements for multiple functions of the organization. The Data Engineer II has solid operational knowledge of data warehousing principles and concepts especially with regards to data acquisition, transformation and target system integration patterns, techniques, and best practices. Solid knowledge of database management systems, data architecture, data modeling and data quality will be necessary for this position. The most successful person in this role will have hands on knowledge with one or more integration tools like Talend, or SSIS, or with interface technologies such as HL7, FHIR, and APIs. Additionally, hands on experience with MS SQL Server, MySQL or Oracle will also be needed to be successful in this role. Work effectively with business owners to determine and design the appropriate solutions when supplying data pipelines to other vendor applications, regulatory requirements, and multiple analytics platforms. Highly desire experience with healthcare EMR and/or ERP systems.

  • Collaborates in the efforts to establish protocols/guidelines for best data management practices across the enterprise, utilizes business knowledge to establish data standards. Collaborates with Data Architects, BI Developers, Business SMEs, and Data Scientists to design and develop end-to-end data pipeline to meet fast paced business needs. Works in close collaboration with product management, peer system and software engineering teams to clarify requirements and translate and design them into robust, scalable, operable solutions that work well within the overall data architecture and manage technology change. 
  • Develops complex SQL Queries, PL/SQL ETL, stored procedures, data views and database build and design. Effective use of Microsoft ETL and data transformation technologies including but not limited to SQL Server database, SSIS SSRS and SSAS. 
  • Plans, designs, and executes data integration solutions through the establishment of new or modified interfaces, data mappings, transformations and routing of data utilizing APIs, FHIR, HL7, SFTP, cloud data movement, standard ETL/ELT technologies, and data virtualization technologies

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors, masters, or PhD Degree in a quantitative field (mathematics, computer science, physics, economics, engineering, statistics, etc.).
  • Hospital Experience - Minimum of 3-4 years of work experience in healthcare and analytics tools. Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in data analytics and machine learning platform architecture.
  • Expert knowledge of AWS, Azure, Snowflake, Data Virtualization and AI/ML technologies
  • Intermediate skills in Modeling tools (ER/Studio, Spark Enterprise Architecture, Erwin) and techniques (normalization, star schemas, data vault).
  • Advanced experience with relational DBMS and advanced SQL capabilities.
  • Advanced techniques in industry standard patterns and practices for data modeling, process modeling, and metadata management.
  • Prefer experience in data modeling for Big Data and establishing data integration between disparate systems.
  • Experience with a Data Integration/Transformation for on-prem and Cloud tools (Such as Informatica, dbt, fivetran, Snowflake, etc.). Preferable Epic Cogito experience. Knowledge of Clarity/Caboodle data models.
  • Prefer experience with designing application data models for mobile or web applications.
