The Development Engineer for Electric Vehicle (EV) Thermal Management technologies will be responsible to develop and improve the overall vehicle level thermal management on current and future generations of EV platforms . Prior experience on performance evaluation and optimization of EV HVAC system components for Light vehicle / Commercial Vehicle and other applications. The responsibilities will be a combination of engineering problem solving, design ownership and cross-functional collaboration with talented and passionate colleagues who share your enthusiasm for technical excellence and innovation.

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with OEM to capture thermal system requirements / development of system through the vehicle lifecycle
  • Lead development of AC compressor / Heat pump to meet thermal system and vehicle requirements on EV with optimal efficiency, cost, weight, manufacturability, and serviceability
  • Optimize / Analyze HVAC System architecture using simulation tools to achieve overall HVAC performance and Thermal System requirements on EV under specified operating conditions
  • Develop control models to optimize for compressor / heat pump performance, efficiency, noise levels
  • Create test request , execute tests, analyse test results and document test results
  • Interface with suppliers and internal customers to ensure timely program deliverables within budget
  • HVAC system compliance / certification requirements applicable per EV motor vehicle safety standards/ certifications
  • Takes accountability for planning and budget for his own projects.
  • Accountable for documenting, presenting and reporting projects against a committed timeline.
  • Leads the collaboration with external companies and universities in the context of his/her projects
  • Maintain relationship with top players in the field of expertise (universities, labs, suppliers,…) in order to anticipate trends, stay on top of industry best practices and define the best strategy for tools development
  • Ensure the training / development of self on tools in the area of expertise
  • Support product development and application launches, launch issues and field issues when appropriate

Qualifications:

  • Masters / Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Min 6-8 years of engineering experience
  • Proficiency in CATIA or other CAD packages
  • Disciplined organization and project management skills
  • Strong communication skills

Nice to have:

  • Experience with automotive HVAC systems and its components / system level interactions with various operating optimization trade off knowledge
  • Experience with heat pumps / electric compressor and its operating principles on Electric vehicle
  • Experience with automotive communication protocols (LIN, CAN) / interface with HVAC components
  • Experience in thermal management, heat transfer, and fluid transfer at a vehicle level with automotive OEM’s or/ HVAC and Powertrain Cooling hardware suppliers
  • Experience with automotive Thermal Systems parts including inlet plenums, filters, fans and blowers, HVAC modules, cabin ducting, heat exchangers, and fluid transfer components
  • Knowledge of Automotive cooling and heating requirements / technical specifications / certifications requirements
