Title

Sr. Engineer

Purpose/Scope

Provides engineering expertise in support of a wide range of transportation and logistics related efforts. Generally performs as a Task Leader on more complex project assignments under the guidance of a Team Leader.

Responsibilities

Perform a range of design development, analysis, or review tasks independently providing supervision of contributing engineers

~Responsible for complete designs, analyses, or design reviews independently or as the group leader.

~Generate complete design specifications for the most complex projects.

~Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.

~Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications

~Conduct site visits and experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations.

~Prepare oral presentations and written reports to management, indicating solution or range of possible alternatives in rank of desirability and probability of success when there is no single solution.

Minimum Knowledge

Master's degree (or equivalent) preferably in an engineering discipline. A minimum of 12 years engineering experience. Experience must include specialized engineering involving major project management responsibilities. Experience must also include all phases of engineering support including problem formulation/specification, system design, data collection, systems engineering and analysis, problem resolution, and documentation of results. Good oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills, and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required. Position may require travel. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

Work Environment

Most positions involve typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communications, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines. Some positions involve work in environments (e.g., shipboard, labs, outside locations, etc.) where mechanical equipment, weapons, etc. are being installed, tested, analyzed/monitored, operated, and/or maintained. Equipment may be loud and noisy or have exposed moving components. Such positions may involve routine lifting up to 50 pounds, regular handling, grasping, kneeling and carrying and constant use of vision and mental alertness is required.
