We are seeking a Sr. Usability Engineer with healthcare IT experience who can support clinicians and informaticists in ensuring user-friendliness, effectiveness, and overall quality of clinical decision support systems. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct thorough usability assessments, and evaluations and collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance the overall user experience. The position offers stimulating projects, in a rich healthcare environment, interacting with senior clinical staff of clinicians and nurse practitioners.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct usability assessments, evaluations, and user testing of commercial software to evaluate the effectiveness of clinical decision support systems, including workflow analysis, usage scenarios, test data, heuristic evaluation, scenario-based walkthrough, usability testing, and satisfaction surveys.
  • Identify and prioritize usability issues and document them. Writeup, present and discuss various analysis papers.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, CDS experts, and user researchers to ensure that usability standards are integrated into the product development process.
  • Create and maintain usability guidelines and design standards to be used across various projects.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices in usability engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Usability Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven 5+ years experience as a Usability Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of usability principles, best practices, and user-centered design methodologies. Proficient in user-centered design techniques, such as creating user profiles and user scenarios; analyzing users’ goals and creating personas; articulating conceptual models of users’ complex tasks; planning, conducting, and summarizing usability studies.
  • Experience working with clinicians on analyzing clinical problems, workflows, and decision support guidelines. Clinical background is a plus.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and tools (JIRA, Confluence).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
