Job Summary Job Summary As an Accounting Clerk you will manage, analyze, report and audit accounting data to support San José Unified programs and operations.

SAN JOSE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT I. Student Body Account Clerk I II. Definition Under general supervision of an administrator in a District middle school, to maintain financial records of student body funds and supervise operation of student body store within the provisions of the District's Student Body Procedures manual, and do related work (consistent with the job description). III. Examples of Duties Supervises students doing office work, and maintains financial records of student body accounts; posts income and expenditures to student body account ledgers; prepares monthly statements of student body account income, expenditures and balances; accounts for cash collections and maintains adequate student body cash collection records; prepares checks in payment of obligations of the student body; organizes and maintains procedures for handling of such fund raising activities as paid admission events, sale of publications, subscriptions, student body cards, student organization collections, and other collections authorized by the Board of Education; exercises immediate supervision over students assisting with ticket sales, cash collections, and student store activities. Supervises operation of the student store, orders supplies, and maintains perpetual inventory; handles finances for campus student organizations, sale of the school yearbook. Supervises issue of locks to students and maintains records of locks issued and lock combinations; may change lock combinations; maintains and enters data through the use of computer terminals. Supervises or coordinates work of other clerical staff. IV. Distinguishing Characteristics V. Employment Standards A. Knowledge of: The methods and practices of financial recordkeeping, including double entry bookkeeplng procedures; Modern office methods and accounting terminology. B. Ability to: Meet the public tactfully and courteously and to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships; Operate a calculator, and other standard office equipment; Learn to operate a computer terminal; Make arithmetical calculations with accuracy; Effectively supervise students working in the student store to provide training in basic store procedures; Become familiar with the District's Student Body Procedures manual. C. Education/Training/Experience: Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent, including or supplemented by courses in bookkeeping.
