BASIC FUNCTION: Under the oversight of the Director, Financial Accounting and Reporting, performs the accounting and reconciliation work for various Institute revenue streams including that of the Museum Shop retail operation, the museum admissions area, and the Gene Siskel Film Center.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports the Museum Shop retail operations by reviewing and reconciling all sales and inventory activity. Responsible for reconciliations of Museum Shop cash deposits and credit card receipts related to onsite and online sales. Researches and resolves issues as required.
  • Assists in preparation of the check run of the Museum Shop and works closely with the Accounts Payable team in ensuring appropriate supporting documentation and approvals are gathered.
  • Completes daily reconciliations of credit card receipts for Museum admissions onsite and offsite ticketing and membership transactions including resolution of all differences in a timely manner.
  • Performs daily upload of admissions retail transactions to the PeopleSoft accounting system. Reviews balances and promptly investigates and resolves issues.
  • Reconciles the Gene Siskel Film Center’s credit card activity in the POS system to the credit card processor activity.
  • Prepares monthly journal entries and completes balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Assists with inventory count planning and execution.
  • Prepares work papers for Museum shop operations for use in unrelated business income tax return.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or other degree with equivalent accounting experience required
  • Minimum 2-4 years accounting experience required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required 
  • Familiarity with retail POS systems such as ChainDrive a plus 
  • High attention to detail, works accurately and quickly and has good organization skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management
