The Raymond Energy Storage Systems team is an expanding group of enthusiastic engineers, who are driven by the opportunity to develop and implement advanced energy technology in the material handling industry. Our team has an interest in lithium-ion battery systems, energy storage, and charging technologies. The team works to support development of sustainable, clean energy solutions to reduce the cardon footprint and environmental impact of our customers. Our team is involved in all aspect of the development which allows for many opportunities for professional development and advancement.

About the position:

We are looking for an Energy Systems Engineer to join our team in Greene, NY or Rochester, NY. This engineer is responsible for the design compliance and conformance of current and new products to industry standards. 

  • Participate in the design and implementation of both truck and electric power source programs, but with a developed focus on the electric power source program to complement the truck’s requirements. 
  • Apply energy standards for lead-acid, lithium, fuel cells, and other existing/emerging energy technologies to support product development.
  • Understand electrical system design concepts. Create and develop electrical schematics, as well as component qualification and selection for energy systems.
  • Provide requirements for software interface solutions and customization between systems which may include battery management systems, vehicle controllers, and charger communication.
  • Verify that system and software design meet requirements.
  • Lead and coordinate testing resources (internal and external) to document and validate compliance to required industry standards for both new and existing products.
  • Design and develop various components and sub-systems in support of electrical system product development. Development may include electrical, software, and/or controls tasks.
  • Understand and convey standard requirements (including Raymond standards) to applicable system designs and stakeholders. 
  • Work with standards and internal organizations to develop optimized processes and systems.
  • Resolve compliance design issues or difficulties in a manner consistent with company mission, values, and financial objectives.
  • Provide support for new product development teams. Works with cross-functional groups at the direction of a Lead Engineer or Program Manager. 
  • Provide customer, field service, supplier, and factory support on engineering-related issues.

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Systems, Mechanical, or Energy Engineering. 
  • 1+ year of experience working with systems design, power systems, and mechanical design and drafting. 
  • Interest in Energy Storage Solutions, Power Systems, Control Systems for power and mobile equipment.
  • Previous project and class experience in job related areas.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and carry out technical activities.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Ability to present technical material to technically diverse audiences.

It would be great if you had:

  • Master's degree in Electrical, Systems, or Mechanical Engineering. 
  • Solid understanding of programming techniques using C, C++, C#, Python, Structured Text, or similar languages
  • Basic understanding of network and communications technology – CAN, TCP/IP, Ethernet, UWB, Bluetooth, etc.
  • Knowledge of software-hardware development processes and practices for functional safety, including UL 1998
  • Experience (or related experience) with North America industrial, battery and charger standards such as B56.1 thru B56.11, UL 583, UL 2580, UL 991, UL 1998, UL 1642, UL 1973, UL 2271 and UL 1564
  • Experience (or related experience) with international battery standards such as IEC 62619
  • Knowledge of interface development with electric power systems and the control parameters applicable for an industrial application
  • Direct customer-facing experience.
  • Previous project or work experience in batteries, energy storage, power systems, and controls architecture.
  • Previous project or work experience in vehicle systems and mobile equipment.

About the total compensation package:

Salary - Expected to be between $72,000 and $90,500 depending on the selected candidate’s background.

Relocation – This position may qualify for relocation.
