Job Responsibilities

As a Software Applications Engineer at Lam, you’ll be at the forefront of driving innovation and adoption of our software products. Our software is created by world-class engineers in many disciplines: software engineering, numerical physics, statistics, electrical engineering, quality assurance and development operations. You’ll support fast product evolution through agile processes by analyzing, designing, programming, testing, debugging, and enhancing software applications. With your expertise and initiative, you’ll turn ideas into great products that drive advancements in Lam’s semiconductor technology.

In this role, you will directly contribute to supporting etch product group in defense and penetration of critical projects directly contributing to Lam’s market share and revenue. You will work closely with a team of process engineers to develop feature scale models to predict on wafer performance.

  • Design, develop, improve, and maintain key application models which calibrate with experimental data for various projects in etch product group.
  • Drive adoption of internal software products across Lam including Etch and Deposition Product Groups.
  • Collaborate with application teams and process engineers in planning, data collection, modeling, data analysis, and report results to stakeholders.
  • Partner cross-functionally to understand Product roadmaps, process flow, inflection points, software requirements, and business use cases.
  • Provide requirements and user stories to product managers and developers to ensure required capabilities are available for applications.
  • Acts as single point of contact accountable for applications and key projects.
  • Develop clean, scalable, maintainable, and testable application code.
  • Implement unit, integration, and end-to-end testing to enhance functionality of software applications.
  • Work closely with process engineers to develop and validate feature scale models to enhance process understanding, guide new experiments to break process trade-offs on structured wafers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with 3 years of experience; or a PhD with 1-2 years of experience in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Python programming or other programming languages.
  • Familiarity with software product development methodologies.
  • Effective organizational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, adjust to shifting priorities, and meet business needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to coordinate and communicate with diverse, cross-functional, and matrixed internal and external partners.
  • Prior hands-on semiconductor experience is preferred with knowledge of process development for deposition and etch.
