The Neely House is a short-term residence for cancer patients and their families who are receiving treatment at Tufts Medical Center. The Neely House provides a home-away-from-home and an environment that is supportive and peaceful during a difficult time. All Neely House staff and volunteers are responsible for providing a calm, clean, safe and comfortable environment for cancer patients and/or their families. 

It is important that the person filling this role exude a friendly, approachable and understanding nature. They must have the ability to engage with people, both adult and pediatric, that are dealing with a stressful situation. The position is employed by The Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care and reports the Director of Neely House and Cancer Fund Initiatives.

Schedule: Per diem but looking for someone who is available to work 25-30 hours per week, Day shift, occasional weekend shifts as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: 

1. High school diploma or equivalent. 

2. One (1) year of customer service or call center experience. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Associate’s Degree and/or experience in the social work, medical or hospitality is preferred.

2. Two (2) years of customer service or call center experience working in billing, collections, or insurance. 

3. All staff to either have or obtain CPR/AED certifications

4. Bilingual 

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. 

1. Assumes role as representative of The Cam Neely Foundation and The Neely House and presents themselves accordingly, providing the history of the Foundation and what its mission is.

2. Promote an energetic and positive attitude to all guests, staff and volunteers.

3. Maintain a safe, clean and comfortable environment.

4. Welcomes and orientate new guests upon their arrival. Complete all departure procedure requirements for those checking out.

5. Handle inquiries by phone and/or email regarding information or the reservation process.

6. Available to guests at all times during working hours; Facility should not be left unattended for any reason.

7. Clearly enforce The Neely House rules for all House occupants.

8. Handle difficult emergency situations in a calm and clear manner and be sensitive to potential guest psychosocial crisis and alert appropriate personnel.

9. Proactively addresses guest questions and is prepared to provide information ranging from clinical and support services to nearby resources and attractions.

10. Regularly performs security checks of facility at beginning of the shift and at the end of the shift and reports maintenance issues to House Manager.

11. Maintain a professional demeanor at all times.

12. Maintains safe environment during night hours.

13. Acts as immediate coverage in case of emergency.

14. Communicate clearly and promptly any issues that have arisen during shift with Manager.

15. Completes log for each shift prior to end of shift.

16. Problem-solves to their best ability.

17. Maintains collaborative team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working group’s achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment.

18. Updates all programs and systems with edits that have occurred during their shift.

19. Manages events as scheduled. This includes, but is not limited to, preparing the dining area for dinner events, offering and providing tours of the facility to volunteer groups, cleaning and placing furniture back to original places after events.

20. Before end of shift, make sure linens are washed, bed is made, and bathroom is clean for next staff use.

21. Day Shift - Recruits volunteers to serve our guests in individual or group capacities.

22. Day Shift - Manages volunteer scheduling and coordination in conjunction with House Manager. This includes, but is not limited to, communicating volunteer guidelines, ensuring all paperwork is completed prior to date of event, preparing the dining area for dinner events, offering and providing tours of the facility to volunteer groups, cleaning and placing furniture back to original places after events.

23. Maintains collaborative team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working group’s achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment.

24. Performs various other duties as assigned.

Job Knowledge and Skills:

1. Must have a demonstrated knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office.

2. Demonstrated experience communicating orally and in writing. Experience writing clear, concise letters or e-mails with accurate spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Work requires frequent typing and occasional lifting large or heavy materials.
