This role is hybrid, in Portage, MI with the expectation to come into the office 3-4 days a week.

What You Will Do

This is a great opportunity to make an impact on the future development of research and product development for Orthopedic Instruments Power Tools. In this role, you will be taking a lead role in understanding customer pain points and apply sound engineering practices from concept to production, in addition to providing technical focus across our Electrical Engineering program team. You will collaborate with other focused thought leaders and partner with R&D teams throughout Stryker to conceptualize, develop and release solutions to improve surgery outcomes. This is an exciting space for an experienced engineer that is eager to collaborate and be a part of something new at Stryker.

  • Lead or mentor design and development of electrical components, sub-systems, and/or systems for medical devices.
  • Apply and mentor others on advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts.
  • Conduct, design, and select advanced prototyping and testing.
  • Lead and guide in correction of complex product design issues.
  • Conduct technology exploration and influence application in the business.
  • Translate user needs to design inputs/ specifications and produce complex system level designs independently.
  • Develop a number of invention disclosures, patents or trade secrets.
  • Independently make design tradeoff decisions while designing multiple components of the system.
  • Contribute to competitive and market strategy by demonstrating in-depth knowledge of the market, customer dynamics and competitive offerings.
  • Apply strong understanding of clinical procedures to enhance product development.
  • Contribute to and execute customer-facing activities like voice of customer and customer-centric design in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to R&D procedures and development of industry standards working closely with cross-functional business units.
  • Work cooperatively with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success, both leading and influencing other leaders on the team.
  • Identify and lead the creation of or improvements to procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology required.
  • Execute and lead segments of complex product development to advance projects through the design /development/launch process.
  • Contribute to complex product development through release and lead one technical area of expertise.
  • Hold self and others accountable to deliver high quality results with passion, energy and drive to meet business priorities.
  • Mentor, develop and inspire others in current and future roles.

What You Need

  • Bachelor's degree in EE or related discipline.
  • 6+ years of work experience

Preferred:

  • Ability to lead or teach electrical engineers in electrical design.
  • Advanced understanding of the design of complex components and sub-systems.
  • Ability to apply advanced circuit and electrical system test methods.
  • Proven expertise of electrical design process, electrical components, and manufacturing methods
  • Proven expertise of circuit design fundamentals with experience in analog, digital, mixed-signal, and/or power electronics.
  • Proven expertise in printed circuit board design processes and software tools for schematic entry, simulation, and board layout.
  • Understands the advanced theory and methods of control theory design and can lead others in its application while demonstrating:
  • Expertise in time domain and frequency domain analysis techniques to characterize, analyze, and optimize system performance and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink (or equivalent) to create dynamic models of physical systems and simulate them.
  • Ability to conceptualize, develop, optimize, and integrate new algorithms for monitoring and controlling complex electromechanical systems.
  • Understanding of design and tuning techniques for PID controllers and other topologies (e.g., state space controllers, Kalman filters, observers)
