About the role: 

The Financial Manager works closely with the Client Director Finance on the client portfolios, for which the Client Director Finance is ultimately responsible. The Financial Manager supervises and manages a team of (Junior/Medior/Senior) Financial and Support Officers on a daily basis. Furthermore the Financial Manager is responsible for planning of the client service delivery team in cooperation with the Legal Manager, as well as daily business operations. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Acting as personal director of client companies, including initiating, organizing, attending and chairing client board meetings; 
  • Managing, guiding, assessing and motivating finance team members in a constructive manner and coordinating and planning activities within the team in consultation with the Client Director Finance; 
  • Involved in the appraisal process of team members and staff recruitment. 
  • Responsible for resource planning and meeting client deadlines. 
  • Act as back-up for the Client Director Finance for all finance team matters; 
  • Assisting clients on accounting, bookkeeping, tax and other financial reporting matters; 
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant and applicable legislation and regulations, in particular the Act on the Supervision of Trust Offices Act (WTT) and Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act (Wwft); 
  • Signaling and mitigating risk (factors); 
  • Authorization of payments, cash management, as well as responsible for AML transaction monitoring; 
  • Involvement in day-to-day operations/business and among others with the preparation/review of quarterly VAT returns and annual tax returns, regulatory reporting, periodical financial reports, annual financial statements, ad hoc reporting and other accounting tasks; 
  • Contribute to the expansion of (existing) client portfolio. Assist to achieve commercial objectives, including the ability to act as an adviser on financial matters; 
  • Assess whether documents can be signed in its capacity as director, as the company interest being considered; 
  • Maintaining contacts with consultants and clients and proactively expanding these, and to be able to represent APEX externally 
  • Contribute to internally related projects; 
  • Contributing to and monitoring of high-quality standards; 
  • Compliance and monitoring of internal procedures; 
  • Engaged in commercial activities together with Client and Commercial Directors. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics or equivalent; 
  • Knowledge of Dutch law (Titel 9 BW 2); 
  • Knowledge of all relevant and applicable laws and regulations, including Act on the Supervision of Trust Offices Act (WTT) and Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act (Wwft); 
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting, bookkeeping, and reporting standards and principles, including Dutch GAAP, with a basic understanding of IFRS being preferred; 
  • Knowledge of Fund and/or Real Estate accounting and reporting is an advantage; 
  • 5-8 years of relevant working experience in the corporate and/or financial services industry or an accounting firm; 
  • General knowledge of tax compliance reporting (CIT and VAT) 
  • Knowledge of (inter)national laws and regulations relevant to the financial services industry. 
  • Knowledge of compliance standards (e.g. AML, KYC). 
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and maintain oversight on client portfolios. 
  • Strong communication skills and client focus. 
  • Business acumen. 
  • Reliable, proactive, and accurate.
  • Flexible and able to meet deadlines. 
  • Team player with a sense of responsibility and commitment. 
  • Fluent in both Dutch and English, both oral and written is preferred 
  • Good assessment level and high level of client responsibility; 
  • To be able to view issues with client companies from a more comprehensive point of view ("helicopter view") and to make connections with other disciplines; 
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and numerical skills; 
  • Know how to motivate/coach Team members and monitor the (progress in) objectives and being a team player; 
  • Tackling difficult situations/problems, solution-focused and initiative-rich; 
  • Commercial institution;
