Summary: 

We have a Principal Utilities Process Engineer opportunity to assist with the design/ construction/start-up of our client's new soybean/canola crush processing facility near New Orleans, LA. This position will follow engineering principles in providing support to the client project team to facilitate completing the design and operation of the new processing plant. Utility focus areas will be Boiler house systems (i.e., natural gas boiler system, compressed air system, condensate system and heat recovery systems), water treatment building system, wastewater treatment system, fire protection pump building system and cooling water system. 

Purpose: 

The role will require efficient communications/coordination with the Engineering firm contracted to design the Utility areas of the new facility as well as the rest of the client's project team.

  • This is a seconded position located near New Orleans, LA with initial travel to Atlanta, GA. Must reside near New Orleans, LA and be willing to initially travel*

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead Utility Process engineering design on client's new facility and coordinate process engineering deliverables with Engineering firm.
  • Provide general Utility Engineering guidance and support to project design Engineering firm to progress systems designs.
  • Review Utility area vendor equipment approval drawings.
  • Review/approve Utility PFDs and PIDs.
  • Review/approve Utility Area Process Narratives/Functional descriptions.
  • Review/approve Utility Equipment and Instrumentation specifications.
  • Review/approve project Basis of Technical Design.
  • Assist with equipment/piping layout and 3D model development. 
  • Review/approve Utility mass and energy balances.
  • Be the primary technical responder to RFIs (requests for information) related to utilities scope.
  • Provide technical assistance to procurement and project management with equipment bidding process, including equipment specifications development, package documentation, bidding, total cost of ownership analysis and bid comparisons.
  • Review and provide feedback on equipment, line, valve, specialty item and instrumentation lists generated by Engineering firm.
  • Ensure project compliance with engineering and equipment standards.
  • Assist project management team with requested planning/update documents and provide regular feedback to project schedule team on activity progress for utilities scope.
  • Engage Project managers and client's subject matter experts as necessary to escalate issues for prompt resolution.
  • Interface effectively with other Project contracted personnel and engineering discipline leads as well as Project safety, accounting, legal, environmental, QA/QC, and procurement groups to assist with project needs.
  • Assist with Project commissioning and start-up including system walk-downs and safety reviews.
  • Analysis and problem solving, communicates and persuades, builds shared vision, champions customer and stakeholder focus, team working/building, demonstrates courage.

What you will bring

Technical/Industry Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years total industry experience.
  • Experienced in using Microsoft TEAMS/Word/Excel, Visio and PowerPoint.
  • Experienced in using Navisworks 3D viewing software.
  • Other desirable competencies.

Additional info: 

Work Schedule 

  • 40 – 50 hours per week.

Physical Requirements

  • Walking on catwalks at a variety of heights.
  • Climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Bending, stooping.
  • Working outdoors in a broad range of climate conditions.
  • Working around operating machinery at construction sites and in processing plant environments. 

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training: 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Applicable related field and significant utilities experience including boilers, water treatment systems, wastewater systems, cooling water systems and compressed air systems.
