About this role 

As a Senior Staff Data Scientist on the Search Experience team, you will build scalable search algorithms fueled by machine learning and data-driven processes. You will collaborate with other Data Scientists, Product Managers and engineers to improve Udemy’s search product. We have an exciting road map ahead of us and it is a unique opportunity to build a robust and powerful search system at scale.

What you'll be doing: 

  • You will be driving the development of sophisticated data models and algorithms. Your expertise will be crucial in fine tuning ML models.
  • You will develop innovative approaches to build data products and implement fast prototypes.
  • You will stay at the cutting edge of advancements in data science, NLP, LLMs, machine learning, and prompt engineering.
  • You will implement complex data pipelines and maintain/monitor them. 
  • You will form product hypotheses, implement metrics and design A/B experiments to quantitatively measure product success. 
  • You will communicate project status to non-technical stakeholders.

You will guide and inspire junior data scientists and engineers, shaping the future of our department and fostering a culture of continuous innovation and learning.

What you’ll have 

  • 5+ years of full-time experience with machine learning, data science or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of machine learning and hands-on experience in a variety of fundamental methods like regression, classification, clustering using libraries like scikit-learn, LightGBM etc.
  • A solid understanding of analytics, statistics, and probability. This includes familiarity with statistical tests, distributions, and data analysis techniques and effectively interpreting and communicating statistical information.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills enable you to effectively articulate technical concepts and findings to non-technical team members and stakeholders.
  • Experience with relevant programming languages (e.g. Python).
  • Experience writing complex SQL queries.
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g. Tensorflow, PyTorch).
  • Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods.

Experience building products using LLMs. Knowledge of prompting techniques, prompt-tuning, Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG)
