Role Summary

What’s the role of a Sales Engineer at Splunk? 

  • You will technically own, discover, position, prove and deliver the key technical elements of a sales cycle to achieve a ‘technical win’ within large scale and sophisticated customer environments. communication styles, technology skills and experiences and soft skills and people skills to develop positive relationships with both your sales colleagues and your customers in Eastern Europe
  • You will be an advocate and ambassador for Splunk through your professional social media, industry and marketing events and supporting pipeline generation activities
  • You will collaborate with your customer contacts, and build them into Splunk champions, by helping them to understand how Splunk can help them to tackle some of their most ambitious problems and help them achieve their objectives.

What you'll get to do

  • Ability to demonstrate Splunk products and services to customers on site, remotely via webinar sessions, and at field events such as conferences and trade shows.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships throughout the sales cycle not only with our customer's technical staff.
  • Willing to travel 50% to visit prospects and customers, and to engage in onsite customer work when required.
  • Experience responding to functional and technical parts of RFIs/RFPs is also relevant.
  • Self-motivated with a proven track record in technical software sales and knowledge of technology.
  • Strong presentation skills and communicate clearly and professionally to emails, RFPs, and when submitting reports.
  • Ability to be organised and analytical, eliminate sales obstacles using creative and adaptive approaches.
  • Answer technical building questions plus address customer concerns to a successful outcome.
  • You should have experience with discovering pain and resolving value with customers.
  • Working for a dynamic technical organization with a rapidly growing customer base.
  • Work closely with the presales team and presales management to develop and continually improve working practices, presales processes.

Must-have Qualifications

Technical: 

  • Cloud: The benefits, pitfalls and technical considerations of moving from on premise to cloud based infrastructures, or indeed how born-in-the-cloud companies operate.
  • Travel around 50% in South Africa
  • Cloud Certification
  • Security/ SecOps/ DevOps
  • Understanding of modern and traditional architecture
  • Experience writing code / scripting to automate common tasks (Python, bash, Ruby, etc.)

Other advantages

  • MOD Clearance (level 2)
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or similar course of study - equivalent professional experience will be considered
  • CISSP / ITIL or equivalent certifications

Note: 

OTE Range 

For sales roles starting salaries are expressed as On Target Earnings or OTE (OTE = base + on-target incentives in the form of sales commission plans). 

South Africa 

On Target Earnings: ZAR 1,480,000.00 - 2,035,000.00 per year 

Splunk provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office roles. We have a market-based pay structure which varies by location. Please note that the On Target Earnings (OTE) range is a guideline and for candidates who receive an offer, the OTE will vary based on factors such as work location as set out above, as well as the knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate. In addition to OTE, this role may be eligible for equity or long-term cash awards.
