Responsible for performing preventative and ongoing maintenance for mechanical, electrical, plumbing and other infrastructure systems in mission-critical, high-risk, or high-reliability environments (data centers, medical facilities, laboratories or utilities infrastructure) to ensure operational efficiency and maximum facility uptime. Regularly inspects and monitors equipment and responds to irregular or malfunctioning conditions. Responds quickly to emergency situations that may be detrimental to the facility’s operations and coordinates with other critical facilities professionals to perform corrective repairs. Complies with organizational and governmental standards for operations and work safety. May maintain multiple components including HVAC systems, air or liquid cooling systems, CRAC/CRAH units, power distribution units, fire systems, life safety systems, etc. Monitors equipment and responds to irregular conditions.

Working at NTT

The role of Critical Facilities Maintenance Technician is to provide hands-on analysis, maintenance and troubleshooting support of all facility operations within assigned data centers. This will include the installation, repair and maintenance of critical and non-critical mechanical and/or electrical machinery and controls located in the interior and exterior of the building(s).

Key Role and Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain critical and non-critical data center infrastructure, equipment and necessary systems to support client requirements (Facility Operations and Service Operations).
  • Receive and execute work orders for preventative and corrective maintenance on critical systems, electrical systems and building physical structure.
  • Conduct routine inspections on the equipment rooms, data center, UPS room and production areas.
  • Monitor and assess all equipment and installations in the facility to ensure that they are in good working condition.
  • Coordinate with building administration to ensure common area and list services are efficiently provided to clients.
  • Monitor housekeeping program for assigned facility aligned to client requirements, NTT standards and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate with client on housekeeping schedule and specialized work (Carpet, cleaning pest control).
  • Assist with reporting of facility management operations and required metric reports to management.
  • Assist in arranging security guidelines for security and closed-circuit television for client approval.
  • Monitor power, cooling capacity, and environmental conditions within the data halls.
  • Work with a team of CFTs to deliver total availability (100% uptime) while minimizing risks.
  • Troubleshoot and document technical issues, escalates as appropriate, and ensure issue resolution.
  • Maintain strict adherence to change control activities.
  • Adhere to all local and relevant safety laws, corporate governance and principles, etc.

Knowledge, skills and attributes:

  • Familiar with building management systems (BMS/EPMS) and data collection
  • Understanding of the engineering design and operational aspect of all electrical systems
  • Able to adapt to changes in the work environment; manage competing demands; change approach or method to best fit the situation.
  • Eager to respond promptly to customer needs and solicit customer feedback to improve service.
  • Ability to follow instructions and respond to management direction, taking responsibility for actions.
  • Display willingness to make decisions.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/ fiber) cabling
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Academic Qualifications and Certifications:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or relevant discipline
  • Electrical or mechanical license, preferred.

Experience required:

  • Demonstrated experience in mission critical environments (electrical or mechanical critical facilities support)

Facilities or building maintenance demonstrated experience.
