Senior Product Engineer

Reports to: Application Engineering Manager Friction materials RoW

Located: FMG Qingdao

Key purpose: Provide top level engineering expertise to achieve ZF business growth with friction materials in AP

Job Family Engineering

Main accountabilities, responsibilities and deliverables

1. Defines & drives regional application engineering of friction materials in alignment with Business line, regional needs and Global Friction material Engineering.
2. Supports Regional Sales and Marketing of ZF Aftermarket in AP.
3. Ensure product application engineering excellence and efficiency within regional ZF Aftermarket in AP.
4. Drives friction material engineering release process from external suppliers in AP.
5. Ensure the execution of product releases (NPI) in time, in quality and in budget.
6. Build up and maintain working network within the regional ENG community.
7. Supports production and process engineering in the FMG plant in Qingdao.
8. Ensure product validation excellence and efficiency within Aftermarket.
9. Define and build up team/infrastructure to ensure to support growth in AP

1. 50 NPI annual released TRW brand
2. 50 NPI annual released 2nd line brands
3. 2 friction materials annual assessment
4. 1 annual benchmark of AP friction products.

Key Performance Indicators

1. 1st KPI: annual number of NPI >100
2. 2nd KPI: Speed-to-Market STM < 250 days

Required skills and experience / main competencies

1. Technical Expertise: Profound knowledge of friction materials, tribology, material science, and manufacturing processes related to braking systems. Familiarity with friction materials' behavior under different conditions is crucial. A minimum of 5 years of experience in the friction industry.
2. Research and Development Skills: Ability to conduct research, develop, and test new friction materials, formulations, and technologies. Strong problem-solving skills to address challenges related to friction, wear, and performance.
3. Product Development: In-depth understanding of brake system components, ability to design and develop effective friction materials that meet performance, safety, and durability requirements.
4. Communication Skills Internal: Ability to communicate with FMG Spain team and local engineering team to drive the engineering topics. Ability to provide technical trainings to internal stakeholders like CatMan sales, purchasing etc.
5. Communication Skills External: Ability to support on technical trainings or communicate with customers in APAC market (China & RoAP) on the technical related questions, like noise, dust and other friction related question.

14. Education Requirements
15. Bachelor’s degree or above in Manufacturing /Automotive/Mechanical Engineering related majors is required
