JOB FUNCTION / PURPOSE

The Income Tax Manager is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation, filing, and compliance of U.S. federal, state, and local income tax returns for the organization. Additionally, the manager is responsible for managing the income tax provision process in accordance with ASC 740. The manager’s expertise in income tax regulations, tax planning, and ASC 740 will contribute to the organization’s financial success, regulatory compliance, and accurate financial reporting.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and manage the preparation, review, and timely filing of income tax returns, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and reporting requirements. This includes the filing and payment of quarterly tax estimates.
  • Stay updated with changes in income tax laws, regulations, and interpretations. Conduct in-depth research, analyze tax implications, and provide recommendations to optimize tax benefits and mitigate risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, accounting, legal, and operations, to gather necessary information and ensure accurate and complete reporting of income tax information.
  • Assist in the preparation of tax-related audit schedules, respond to inquiries from tax authorities, and provide necessary documentation during tax audits.
  • Identify potential tax risks, evaluate their impact on the organization, and develop and implement strategies to minimize those risks. This includes the evaluation and integration of M&A activity.
  • Maintain and reconcile income tax accounts on the organization’s balance sheet, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of income tax assets, liabilities, and deferred tax balances.
  • Oversee the preparation and analysis of the income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740. This includes calculating the current and deferred income tax expenses, evaluating the organization's tax positions, and ensuring compliance with the relevant accounting standards.
  • Collaborate with the finance and accounting teams to accurately incorporate the income tax provision into the organization's financial statements, ensuring compliance with ASC 740 disclosure requirements.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors during financial statement audits to address inquiries related to the income tax provision, provide necessary documentation, and ensure compliance with ASC 740 standards.
  • Maintain effective internal controls over the income tax provision process to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with ASC 740 requirements.
  • Provide input to accounting policies and SOPs related to recording, payment and tracking of taxes.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Supervise, train, and technically develop Senior Tax Analysts.
  • Assist Finance and Accounting team members with special projects. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Education/Experience: BA/BS degree in Accounting, Experience in a Big 4, at least 5 years proven record of positive deliveries. Master’s degree in Taxation or Accounting preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: CPA required

Technical: Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Thorough knowledge of U.S. tax rules and accounting principles. Familiar with relevant states tax rules. Familiar with NetSuite, CCH, Avalara or Vertex sales and use tax software. Familiar with FAS Sage for tax depreciation.
