Job Summary

Plans audits of complex, high-risk functions and activities such as Enterprise Risk, Credit Risk, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources and Legal, assists in designing audit programs, communicates results and performs major assurance and consulting activities for the organization. Applies competent knowledge of accounting principles, auditing standards and techniques, laws and regulations governing the corporation's business and operations of the corporation's business entities. Works on complex projects and issues and uses professional knowledge, subject-matter expertise, and technical/advanced business concepts to develop innovative approaches to assess risk, resolve critical technical and/or business problems and make decisions. Performs audits independently with minimal direct supervision and may lead and assist less experienced team members.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts audits and risk evaluations of assigned business operations to assess potential risks or control weaknesses. Collects, examines, analyzes, and verifies information about systems and processes by reviewing manuals, policies, reports, financial statements, and other written materials, and by interviewing team members as required.
  • Relies on subject-matter expertise to assist in determining audit priorities, audit scope and audit objectives. Identifies and designs audit tests, selecting samples using statistical or other appropriate methodologies and developing other techniques needed to verify/evaluate controls.
  • Communicates logistical requirements (i.e. scheduling, workspace needs) to client management and requests documentation required for fieldwork.
  • Conducts the opening conference with client management. Discusses potential findings with business-line management throughout the audit. Schedules the closing meeting. Monitors audit progress to ensure timely completion. Facilitates closing meeting.
  • Provides advisory services, as necessary, in the implementation of new systems, processes, products and changes to existing systems, standards and procedures. Use analytical skills to conduct or assist team members with continuous monitoring activities, advisory activities and special reviews.
  • Participates and provides feedback during team audit activities on planning and scoping, business understanding/walkthroughs, and review of risk assessment and testing. Consistently demonstrates critical thinking ability.
  • Uses innovative approaches including data analytics to conduct audits as assigned. Analyzes risk management, control and governance processes and determines their effectiveness and degree of compliance with company policies, procedures and regulations. Conducts thorough and detailed analysis, testing and validation of IT systems, software and applications.
  • Documents and records activities and results. Reviews operations across the company to ensure adherence to policies, objectives and external regulations. When deficiencies are noted, consults with management in developing effective solutions to address root cause and solve business problems. May lead lower-level personnel in conducting audit procedures. Ensures work papers provide adequate support for conclusions and comply with established standards.
  • Creates accurate, logical work papers that clearly describe the work performed, the results of testing and analysis. Prepares draft reports and provides to Manager, IT Audit for review. Ensures appropriate corrective action is taken to reduce unacceptable or undesirable risk. Evaluates the adequacy of recommendations offered.
  • Ensures audit reports contain practical, actionable and effective recommendations which are consistent with current policies and procedures and current operating practices.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with clients. Develops a network of resources to promote free flow of information within the department and across assigned lines of business.
  • Participates in and may lead exit conferences to discuss audit findings and recommendations. Resolves internal customer questions and disputes under appropriate supervision. Participates in ongoing monitoring activities including meetings with business unit leaders. Engages in key initiatives.
  • Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Risk Management, Business Administration or discipline related specifically to business function supported.

Minimum Experience:

  • 2 years of job specific experience performing independent audits or equivalent other combined enhanced experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, auditing standards, laws and regulations
  • Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Be at ease working with various levels of client management, including members of senior and executive management
  • Technology Specific KSAs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Information Technology, auditing standards, laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of the enterprises infrastructure components
  • Ability to fully grasp technical concepts and principles of information technology

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor(CIA), or other relevant industry-specific designation
  • Financial Services experience
  • Technology Specific Preferred KSAs
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA); Certified Information Securities Professional (CISSP) or Certified in Risk & Systems Control (CRISC) or other relevant designation
  • Knowledge of the information systems and applications used throughout the enterprise
