This position is responsible for Brown-Forman’s US GAAP, statutory accounting, and specific financial analyses for the country. The business in this market is growing and diverse. This position will lead initiatives to identify accounting, process, or SOX control issues and will have an opportunity to recommend process definition re-engineering and improvements to drive accuracy and efficiency; and will work with the Sence Accounting Manager to strategize accounting and control advice to the region’s finance team and business units. This position collaborates Corporate Accounting, Regional and Corporate Tax functions, as well as with various GBS functions such as Procure-to-Pay, Credit, Collections and Cash Applications, Payroll and T&E, who have dual reporting into their respective GBS functional managers.

Meaningful Work from Day One

  • Manages financial accounting, reporting & analyses associated with the business unit, including monthly, quarterly, and annual year-end accounting, and closing activities.
  • Responsible for ensuring accuracy and timeliness of all financial records, including financial statements and general ledger data.
  • Responsible for ensuring appropriate internal controls are in place and compliance with corporate financial policies. Provide and implement recommendations for improvements to internal controls and policies.

What You Can Expect

  • Serves as business partner to the respective operating units. Responds to inquiries from the Finance Director, Controller, and other finance and firm wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
  • Prepares and reviews balance sheet reconciliations and provides explanations for variances.
  • Records payroll accounting entries and related accruals in collaboration with GBS Payroll department.
  • Prepares statutory monthly filings and coordinates/participates in annual external and internal audits.
  • Collaborates with the preparation of tax reporting packages (US GAAP).
  • Collaborates with the preparation of VAT and Excise tax reporting and filing with Italian authorities.
  • Ensures transactional data and journal entries processed by the GBS functions are following B-F policies, US GAAP, local GAAP, and also with Italian tax legislation.
  • Oversees advertising and promotion, discount, and other accrual processes.
  • Manages cash reconciliations and provides cash management in partnership with Corporate Treasury.
  • Oversees Intercompany billing and accounting and Fixed Asset accounting.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors for issues and questions regarding the business unit.
  • Leads and/or participates in special projects that require a high level of accounting knowledge (both local GAAP and US GAAP) for example payroll provider migration, implement new P2P system and process.
  • Provides leadership, direction, and personal development for their team.
  • Ensures compliance with B-F Code of Conduct and B-F policies and procedures.
  • This position will be involved in the setup and optimization of the whole accounting process in Italy business.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Demonstrable accounting experience in similar roles.
  • In-depth and demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, international accounting practices, concepts, and standards. This includes respective local country rules, requirements, business practices, etc.
  • Broad process improvement mindset and ability to adapt to ever-changing, and sometimes ambiguous environments.
  • Knowledge of Italy´s tax regulations and requirements.
  • Strong financial and analytical abilities and the ability to explain accounting concepts and financial data in a concise manner.
  • The ability to work independently and execute responsibilities in a high volume, deadline-oriented environment; the willingness and ability to organize, implement, and complete multiple tasks with limited direction; can maintain accurate documentation and perform quality work with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Well experienced leadership skills, actively coaching teams of two or more people, for four or more years.
  • Proven oral and written communication skills with the ability to clearly discuss business issues and translate into financial implications and action plans.
  • Fluency in Italian and English, oral and written.

What Makes You Unique

  • A professional accounting license, such as a CPA or CMA or the Italian equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of the SAP environment (FI/CO/MM/BW).
  • Experience in the beverage alcohol industry.
  • Public accounting experience, preferably a Big 4 firm.
