Job Summary:

Manufacturing Design Engineers Provide technical manufacturing support to a program from the early development phases through transition to production. They participate in manufacturing and test requirements development, design for manufacturing activities, manufacturing process development and factory capabilities analysis to ensure factory readiness and improve product producibility. They leverage technical knowledge of manufacturing capabilities, product technologies, factory requirements and business processes to establish and execute the manufacturing plan and influence technical program decisions to support the overall program value stream.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Acting as the manufacturing and producibility authority within the program
  • Establishing engineering design requirements tailored to manufacturing processes
  • Leveraging knowledge and technical skills to influence business decisions and results from new designs through transition to production
  • Managing large scale design, control, and improvements to the manufacturing process
  • Identifying and resolving constraints across the program
  • Participating in corrective action investigation
  • Providing technical input and peer review to engineering designs and design changes
  • Developing Manufacturing Data Packages (MDPs) including assembly instructions, workflow/routing, labor standards, tool, and fixture designs
  • Providing technical guidance and problem solving to factory engineers
  • Leading Continuous Improvement through design and process improvements to improve cycle time, reduce ergonomic risk to operators, automate, reduce costs (both direct and indirect) using CORE principles and data driven decision making
  • Developing and implementing manufacturing process control and performance monitoring
  • Leading cross-factory strategic improvement projects
  • Leading cross-functional program strategic initiatives
  • Developing influential relationships with internal and external customers
  • Mentoring, coaching, and training other MDEs, PEs, and/or MEs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience.
  • Experience within a manufacturing environment
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Access (ATF) clearance.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Top Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in Science preferably in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
  • Ability to identify, reduce and eliminate cost, quality and schedule constraints through technical engagements
  • Knowledge and ability to apply CORE principles and techniques
  • Technical drawing interpretation, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Proficiency with CAD solid modeling tools (preference for CREO/ProE)
  • Demonstrated hands-on mechanical aptitude with the ability to work across disciplines
  • Innovative mindset that drives continuous improvement, lean manufacturing and keeps pace with advances in technology
  • Experience interpreting and improving technical drawings
  • Experience communicating technical information to different audiences
  • Experience with technical writing
  • Experience with MRP systems
  • Experience leading teams or projects
  • Experience teaching, training and/or mentoring manufacturing systems and processes to junior engineers
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PPT, Project, Word)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and motivational communication skills, including presenation skills
  • Strong organization skills with fine attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Experience with Manufacturing Readiness Assessments
  • Current DoD security clearance (secret)
  • Experience with processing of Government Furnished Material (GFM) or Equipment (GFE)
  • Understanding of the project management lifecycle
  • Understanding of the DoD Program Acquisition and Phases
  • Special Access for some positions
  • Familiarity with Space Programs

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
