Senior Construction Materials Engineering Technician

S&ME is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our Construction Services team in Wilmington, North Carolina. You will play a crucial role in overseeing and executing construction materials testing projects throughout the Piedmont-Triad and surrounding areas.

What You Will Do:

As a Senior Engineering Technician, you will have the opportunity to supervise, lead and mentor junior technicians and work close with project and operations managers to ensure we provide high quality results for our clients.

  • Reviewing plans and specifications for construction site field observations
  • Use Metafield® and other systems for daily documentation of field activities, observations, and testing results
  • Calibrating equipment
  • Conducting Special Inspection per IBC
  • Communicating daily with stakeholders and mentor/train construction staff
  • Serving as a Special Inspection agent
  • Assisting project managers in plan and spec review and resolving deviations

Who You Are:

  • You have a high school diploma/GED
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
  • You have two or more of following active certification(s):
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
  • NICET: Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils)
  • International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
  • DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Density, Asphalt, and Concrete

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough and uneven terrain
  • Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
  • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
