We are seeking a Senior Drainage Design Engineer for our thriving Sydney office to be involved in the technical delivery of a variety of projects across one or more of the fields of water resources including flood risk and resilience and sustainable stormwater. The role will also involve project management to coordinate a project team and ensure projects are appropriately managed and client requirements are met. The role will involve the application of technical knowledge of hydrology, hydraulic and Water quality modelling, most specifically 12D and MUSIC, to lead modelling efforts and provide review of model outputs. Identify opportunities and develop the service to clients that are in line with Stantec business strategies.

Specifically, your duties will include:

  • Leading a team of designers and providing guidance and coaching to junior staff. Strong knowledge of 12D drainage and ability to train junior staff in its use.
  • Acting as drainage lead on large Transport projects providing coordination for the drainage, WSUD and flooding project team
  • Applying your stormwater design skills and innovative ideas across a range of transport upgrade, urban development projects (including major private and government developments) throughout Australia, but mostly with a focus on NSW.
  • Conceptual and detailed design of a range of stormwater infrastructure, including water sensitive urban design (WSUD) elements (eg; GPT, wetlands, raingardens/bioretention basins, detention basins, channels, pit/pipe drainage, flood mitigation/levees).
  • Developing information for tender and construction phases of projects, which includes specifications and engineering quantities
  • Undertaking site inspections for relevant stormwater projects.
  • Producing clear and concise technical reports.
  • Liaising with a range of stakeholders including government authority, utility, Water servicing coordinator, landscape architects, clients and other disciplines to ensure design documentation is coordinated and produced to a high standard.
  • Collaboration with designers, environmental scientists, planners and engineers to deliver designs that are innovative, environmentally sensitive and practical.
  • Experience preparing expressions of interest and proposals and carry out other appropriate marketing initiatives.
  • A sound understanding of project management frameworks, experience in leading project teams, and excellent organisation and time management skills, with a developing to advanced level of financial competency.
  • Strong ability to prioritise tasks and multi-task to ensure deadlines are achieved.

Qualifications

To be successful for this role you'll present:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil or Environmental Engineering coupled with a demonstrated 8 years’ experience in stormwater design.
  • Advanced working knowledge of investigation and design of stormwater infrastructure, including experience working with ARR2019.
  • Demonstrated strong experience using 12D as well as other relevant stormwater software (eg; Drains, MUSIC etc.)
  • Well developed communication skills to collaborate with a range of stakeholders in order to achieve project outcomes.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, including providing support to other teams within Stantec
  • Exposure or experience with CAD.
  • Exposure or experience with TUFLOW
  • Have obtained or are in the process of obtaining CPEng
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo a National Crime Police check.
