The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). M-NCPPC is a nationally recognized and award-winning organization whose mission is to manage physical growth and plan communities, protect and steward natural, cultural, and historic resources, and provide leisure and recreational experiences. The organization serves citizens within Montgomery and Prince George's counties and employs over 5,000 full time and seasonal employees.

The OIG assists M-NCPPC by providing independent evaluation and recommendations regarding opportunities to ensure public accountability by preventing, investigating, and reporting instances of fraud, waste, and abuse of Commission property or funds. The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is seeking a highly motivated Undergraduate or Graduate Intern with an interest and anticipated career in the following areas:

  • Accounting/Auditing
  • Finance/Statistics
  • Economics
  • Business Administration
  • Pre-Law or Juris Doctor

Dates & Additional Information:

  • Internship to begin approximately March 4, 2024 through applicants pending graduation. Summer hours preferred, but not mandatory.
  • The OIG offers a flexible and hybrid work schedule and a total of 20-24 work hours per week. 
  • The projected pay for this position is from $17.00 to $21.50 per hour depending on level and qualifications.

  • Applicants must attach a copy of their college transcript to the application. An unofficial transcript is acceptable.
  • Applicants must attach a personal statement to the application, indicating goals and aspirations that may be enhanced by participating in the internship.

Examples of Important Duties

  • Assist assigned auditor-in-charge in the completion of audit field work. Examples of audit field work include account reconciliations, asset and inventory confirmation, and verification of statistical documents. Progress to independent completion of assigned audits.
  • Document results of audit field work and organize electronic work papers.
  • Review of audit files to ensure compliance with auditing standards and internal policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and track: audit logs, audit recommendations, management responses to audit recommendations, follow-up dates, and report posting.
  • Perform research and data analysis.
  • Review, edit, and format audit reports and other communications for grammar, syntax, spelling, typographical errors, conformance to formats and procedural requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills:

To be consider, applicants must have:

  • Professional level experience in Microsoft Office Products.
  • Excellent business writing and editing skills.
  • Attention to detail.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicant Eligibility:

Students must currently be enrolled in a business program such as accounting/auditing, business administration, economics, finance, statistics, pre-law or juris doctor at a college or university at the undergraduate or graduate level and must have at least a 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale).

Intern I:

Currently enrolled in a college pursuing either an associate or bachelor’s degree or attending a technical school pursuing a relevant professional degree.

Intern II:

Student who has received a bachelor’s degree and accepted or enrolled in a Master’s degree program for a related field of study.

The following information is a summary of benefits extended to all Seasonal employees of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). This is for informational purposes only and is subject to change.

Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees

Health Insurance Plans

You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period.

If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office.

Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
